I'm a little nervous about our upcoming photo shoot with the twins. We're doing it on the beach, and now that they're so wild and running around every which way, i'm beginning to wonder if i'm crazy to have set this up. Will they sit still at all? Will the photog be able to get any pics of them actually sitting together?

    Should I bring props/toys?

Anyone been through a photo shoot recently and has suggestions to share?

    Thanks in advance!

We had an awesome photo shoot at 16 months (granted, we weren't outside where they could have decided to run!) - and I attribute the awesomeness of it all to............

    BUBBLES!

In desperation with one crying toddler, I pulled out the bubbles - and suddenly, they sat still, smiled, reached for the bubbles, etc. The pics turned out awesome!

Good luck - I'm sure the beach pics will be beautiful!! :)

Let them be themselves! We've had professional photos taken both in a "setting" type atmosphere and just having the photographer come to our own backyard. The pictures where the kids are being THEM are the best ones! We were able to get some great shots as a family playing together, laughing together, etc.

Dont be stressed that everyone isnt sitting etc, Im telling you the best ones where they are just them :) thats truly captivating when you look back!

We just had some done at 17 months with another couple and their 9 year old daughter. The boys were great - it was in a studio and they were fine - it was my 3 year old that was the complete pain!! Think the bubbles is a great idea - and also next time definitely going to nick that idea of having the photographer come into the garden - I LOVE that idea!!! We just got some back yesterday and they are really really good - will post some when I can get round to it! Good luck and just enjoy it!

We just had some done this past weekend for father's day. I agree, let the kids be themselves and have the photographer takes pictures of them "in action". Bubbles didn't help us, but sippy cups and snacks did, and believe it or not one of those cat toy things with the feathers and bell on the end of a stick got them looking up, dangle it right above the camera and that got us the best pictures! Yes props are VERY helpful, especially if you can think of some that will contain them, like a box.....or since you're on the beach, a really big bucket or baby pool or float....
Also have the photographer take individual photos, ours did and we ended up with one of the kids looking at elmo in a box not at the camera and then we framed it as an 8x10 with 4 small indiv pics (2 of each of them) looking at that cat toy thing around the 8x10 and it was perfect. I don't know how to upload pics here or I would.....it says to put in a web link, not sure how to do that, I only know how to attach pics to an email.

My suggestions are don't get to the location until about the time you want to start taking photos. Toddlers love seeing new things but then after they have explored everything there is to explore they get bored. You'll have the best chance for them being in good moods and smiling if you get the pictures taken in the first ten minutes you are there!
I would definitely bring props, something to get their attention. GL!

I agree with Aimee, we did a location photo shoot for the one year pics. Bringing toys and snacks should help divert their attention. We showed up to the location right before the photo shoot, so there was no time for them to explore or get worked up before hand. Action shots are also very good and your photographer might want to capture some. Good luck!

We just had some great ones done - mostly impromptu and unplanned. A few posed. They turned out great and SO much better than anything posed in a studio.

I think some fun props might be good, but things that don't have to be used in one particular way. For instance, balls might be better than beach chairs. I love the bubbles idea, too.

    Good luck and have fun!

Here are ours, to give you an idea of what our action shots looked like.
