Bea gets upset about stuff like, if the salt shaker on the table has fallen over. She tells me to make it stand up and will even start crying if I don't. She also does this with things like stuffed animals, if she is trying to make them sit upright and they won't, or me or DH is sitting in the "wrong" place. She also doesn't like the adults in her life to lie down, and she has this weird thing about DH's feet have to be flat on the floor when we are in the family room. It doesn't really bother me, but it can get annoying if like I am trying to do something and I can't go make the object stand up or be in it's right place, or if I want to sit somewhere else or whatever.

Does anyone else have a toddler like this? Is this an OCD kind of thing? Anything to worry about?

We haven't reached this stage yet, but I've heard many parents talking about it around age 2. My guess is that it's nothing to worry about. But I'm sure it will drive me nuts when A&S start doing it!

Alivea does similiar things. If a piece of food falls on floor while she is eating she will stop everything and look at the piece of food, then you, food, you, food, you until you pick it up. She will go over and pick up the toys that Kaytlin scattered around the room and put them in the toy box and if K interrupts her she throws a HUGE fit. She seems a little OCD but I think her's is more heretary then anything. My dad is the same way, everything has to be in place, he isnt obsessive like others are but he likes things done a certain way. I am the same. I am not OCD but I do have OCD tendencies. I like a routine, I like things done a certain way, I dont eat the corners off of anything be it bread, meat, nothing...Just quirky little things like that.

I personally try not to "tend" to Alivea's wims. If K is bothering her by taking the toys out, she looks at me and fusses until I fix them. I have learned to let her figure it out for herself. I also stopped picking up the food off the floor, after a few minutes, she goes back to eating, stopping every once in a while to look at it...She is getting better about it, but still quirky

OMG, you just brought all my memories up from when Nicholas was little!! Everything had to be a certain way or the highway! My heart dropped when you mentioned the lie down thing. How is Bea's speech?
Her personality may be just more sensitive and spirited.
(Nicholas had some other issues so I really can't compare him)

If your gut tells you that something IS wrong, it never hurts to have it checked out. Other than that, I wouldn't worry too much.

Her speech is really good. One of her new phrases is "right there" which she uses a lot with her position of objects thing. Like she will say "Mama sit down right there!" and point to where I am supposed to sit. I don't know what it is with people lying down. Sometimes if I am tired in the morning, I will try to lie down, not even completely, and she gets sooo upset. Yells at me "Mama sit up!"

My friend's daughter was just like that at 2-3. She would notice and get upset over the slightest changes or things out of place and got extremely upset when they painted the house. She's a pretty normal 7-year old now (with the exception of being afraid to have her hair cut) so it could be a phase. Oh, and her speech was significantly delayed although I'm not sure that had anything to do with anything in her case.

Good to know that kids grow out of it. I will also try not to cater to it too much.

Yes, my boys go through phases like this, and sometimes I am lazy and give in to their ridiculous rules, but most of the time if I don't "cater" like that PP said, they just deal with it and eventually it stops.

I'd still mention it the next time you see the pedi, though, if it bugs you!

Yep, Michael went through this phase. It is perfectly normal. Very frustrating on the parent but it is normal and it does pass.

Don't worry, it'll get worse. As they really get into age 2, they become well beyond anal retentative about things, especially placement and routine.
