What can I eat? I am so worried.. I failed the one hour and they postponed the 3 hour until the 3rd because I have bronchitis. I still throw up every day so I worry about the diet. For instance, the only thing that keep me from an hour long dry heave session is toast in the am.

There is bread you can buy that you can eat that has no flour in it (in Canada they call it Balanced but it has a different name in the US)...or depending on how your body deals with bread you may be able to have regular bread. I bought Silver Hills bakery bread and had that every morning. They have bread and bagels.

If you just failed the 1 hr I wouldn't worry about trying to do a GD diet yet, until you take the 3 hr. Many many women will fail the 1 hr (around 40-50% of women my ob said), but only 10% of those go on to fail the 3 hr. They set the #'s for the 1 hr so low so that they can be sure to catch any possible GD patient. You still have a good chance of passing the 3 hr.

I failed one 1 hr for my ds, and 2 for my daughter, yet passed all my 3 hr tests!

I'm sorry you are so sick, especially when you are sick just eat what you can, anything is better than nothing!

If you're still throwing up and is unable to keep solids down, make sure you substitute your food with carbohydrate liquid like some low fat milk, natural fruit juice. Having GDM does not mean u have to avoid carbo entirely, but time the amount of carbo you take at each meal. Opt for wholesome carbo like wholegrain, multigrain, low Glycaemic Index bread or pasta, basmati rice, etc. Small frequent meals are better than big 3 meals as you distribute your carbo intake throughout the day instead of taking in alot at one go and cause a sudden high rise in blood sugar.

Hope these info help. It would be best to see a dietitian or nutritionist if you're still unsure and is unable to control your blood sugar level.

I would still eat the toast. You dont have diab. just cause you failed the one hour. Alot of women pass the 3 hr after failing the 1 hour. I had GD from 6 months on and I ate South Beach Diet foods. Yummy! They have lower carbs and the dietician said it was ok as long as I did my insulin shots every night, watched my numbers and kept my caloric intake in the numbers they set for me.

    Make sure you stay hydrated!!!!

I had GD. I met with a nutritionist who helped me tons. Your Dr. should be able to refer you to one. They will help you count carbs. For instance, you can still eat toast, just make sure is whole wheat (if you can stomach it) because it is lower in carbs than white toast. I was a huge bagel eater and I had to stop that in the am. I found a whole wheat cinnamon raisin toast that was sooooo good! I am an expert at counting carbs. I completely controlled my GM with my diet and I still stayed on the low carb diet after I delivered. Was down to my pre preggo weight by my six week appointment. So GM can be a blessing in disguise. PM me if you have any questions.
