Hi great to be here! I am expecting my first babies January 24th, so I am 11 weeks and 4days... too fun! I saw both kiddos today and they were moving and waving (I like to imagine) The heart rates originally were 134 and 154 at seven weeks. Now at 11 weeks they are 154 and 156. I am sooo curious if they are fraternal or identical and what gender they are its hard to wait. They both have seperate cocoons so the technitions have guessed fraternal... Has anyone learned of some fun or real ways to predict the genders? Otherwise when can we expect to see some proof?

Really thrilled to post. thanks for any speculation.

:welcome: to TS and Congrats on the new babies!!!

We found out at around 18 weeks that we were having a boy and a girl. I had NO idea what I was having! After finding that out, I knew they were frats  I hope you have an easy pregnancy!

How fun! I am due on January 23! We are dying to find out what they are... but everything looked so good at my 10 week appt, the doctor said they probably would do another u/s until 20 weeks. That seems like a lifetime to wait, doesn't it?!

The old wives tale is that a faster heartbeat (above 140) = female and a slower heartbeat (below 140) = male. Of course, there is NO medical evidence to back this up. Both of my twins were at 183, and if that means they're both girls... I'm keeping one in to cook a little longer ;) Two girls as teenagers at the exact same time?! Nooooo thank you! There is no "real" way to predict gender... so have fun guessing! We're hoping for one of each :)

I have asked the doctors and ultrasound techs, and both confirmed that heart does can not predict the gender. They stated the heart rate will change and depends on the baby and how far along you are. We found out their genders at our 16 week ultrasound appt & it was confirmed with the amnio.

Thanks! so great to be pregnant alongside another Mommy of twins! I am so excited!! I hope to find out soon but if anything we are planning to go on August 7th to a 3d/4d ultrasound. I must be patient. Thanks for explaining the heart beats...very interesting! If only it was that simple.

Oh one last question---did you request the amnio nateandbrig? I know I have a battery of blood and lab tests coming but maybe I need to inquire sooner.

This is great to talk. thank you! and best of luck and health to all.

Congrats on your twin pregnancy! I had no clue what I was having until we had the level 2 U/S at 19 weeks. Everyone had their guesses of course, but it turned out we had a boy and a girl. It cracked me up during the c-section, the way my son was laying, the doctor said, "Hmmm...are we sure this is a Luke and not a Lucy?" I remember thinking to myself, "now that would be a riot!"

Welcome and congrats on your twins! With twins there really is no way to truly guess the genders, cause they can always end up surprising you. We were utterly convinced we were having 1 of each partly because of the big difference in their heartbeats and we're having 2 boys, so ya never know. Good luck!

    Welcome! Congrats on your twins.

I wouldn't read into the heart rate at all. I had a VERY long ultrasound yesterday and their heartrates fluctuated a lot during the ultrasound based on how much they were moving.

I was told at my 10 week ultrasound that they were identical and it was confirmed at my 12 and 18 week ultrasounds. They should be able to tell via ultrasound early on. They usually try to determine if they are id or frats because of the risk of TTTS with identicals.

Do you have a gut feeling about what you are having? I found that to be most reliable.

My Twins' heart rates always changed. Early on they were 160's -180's and now they are 145+. We found out at 17 weeks through a private scan that we are having 2 boys. but I can't help but feeling that Baby B might turn into a girl at my anatomy scan monday. The penis just looked like a cord to me. but who knows. We don't know if they are identical or not either. They have separate sacs and placentas.

    Congrats on your twins!

I was not able to find out until 18wks that we were having g/b twins. They semi tried to look @ 14wks but it was too early. Mines heart rates were in the 170s my 1st visit, 150s each visit there after and they have been pretty close together. The one time they werent my boy was at like 145 and the girl 157ish. I contribute that to the fact the boy was just laying there not moving much and not active during ultrasound. In regards to heartbeats, thats VERY NOT ACCURATE. I am proof of that!

Welcome to TS and Congrats on your Twin Pregnancy! :yahoo:

I have never heard of a reliable way to predict gender. I swore I was having twin boys, picked out names and everything...well when my 20 week u/s came around I found out it was two GIRLS! I guess my mommy intuition was a bit off.

If you are doing the nuchal translucency screen and you get scheduled for near the end of your 12th week, you may be able to find out then. We were able to find out with our first. This time, our nuchal translucency is earlier so we will not know, but our doctor said he will do an anatomy scan at 16 weeks, so I'm assuming we will find out then. Good luck and congrats!

We found out one of them was a boy at my 20 week u/s but the other just wasn't cooperating. She said the other MIGHT be a girl. The second time I had a different tech but he said the same thing...one looked like a boy, the other MIGHT be a girl. Finally, the third time (3rd trimester sometime) we got a good look and the MIGHT turned into IS a girl! Phew! It killed me to wait so long but I figured it probably saved me money because I knew as soon as I found out I would be doing some shopping! :p

BTW...Addison's heart rate was always the same or lower than Kyle's. In fact, it got down to as low as 129. Kyle's was always high because he was (and still is) the active one. So the old wives tale is not true. I asked my OB about it early on in pregnancy and he basically told me it was ridiculous.

I know the waiting game can be SO hard! Good luck and congrats on your twin pregnancy! :good:
