Gates for "climbers"

We currently have a gate with vertical bars like this one at the top of our stairs, but have recently discovered our DD likes to try to climb it. We've done some research and unfortunately this is the only gate that works with our type of stairs so we know that this is our only option for the stairs, but we are considering gates for their bedrooms. Does anyone have a recommendation for a gate that meets the following criteria:
    1. either deters climbers or is unusually tall so that it is too difficult to climb
    2. does not have to be the "hands free" kind because it will not be a high traffic area
    3. for those of you with the "screen" type gates-are they easily climbable? (we have a PNP and they like to climb that so I figured it would be a similar situation)
    Thank you for any input/advice.

We have THIS one - I don't think they could climb it! We got it from babycenter.com

We use the metal vertical bar kind -- they do come in an extra-tall style. I know what you mean about the climbing, though. Mine can climb the bars (they use their toes like monkeys) but they choose not to do anything beyond showing me that they can get to the top and swing a leg over then come back down (this is NOT the one on the stairs -- I don't tolerate any climbing there). They can climb the side of a PNP like it's nothing so I don't think that the mesh gate would help. I did seriously consider putting a bit of canola oil on the bars but it's so hard to get out of clothes and they haven't actually climbed over yet.

ETA: I didn't look at the photo you posted until after I wrote this. The hands-free bit has got to go -- that looks like a step up to me. The kind I have is hardware-mounted and can be opened with one hand. Check out Kidco's Safeway Gates.

Mine can climb just about anything . . . we don't gate them in their rooms, just shut the door and have a childproof door knob on the inside of their room so they can't get out at night. It's the only way to keep them safe from themselves and their own curosity!

These have been our most successful gates (and Kev can climb anything!):

    1. Evenflo Soft Gate: no hands free and mesh but tall enough they can't climb it.
    2. First Years Hands-Free Gate: No issues with this gate ever... and we use the extension. My oldest could never climb it and neither can Kev.
    3. Kiddy Guard Gate (see above): I absolutely love this gate! Best purchase ever!
    4. Sure and Secure Custom Gate: has access but also conforms to lots of different spaces and it is really tall, so hard to climb.

Thank you so much for your input. I am currently looking into the Kiddy Guard Gate and Sure and Secure Custom Gate. I was also wondering if anyone has any experience with pressure mounted gates (vs. hardware mounted)?

I have tried EVERYTHING to keep my kids secure and NOTHING works. They can climb anything! I have even tried putting two gates on top of teach other (the bottom one being a solid gate with no toe-holds) and they can get out EASILY. There are some kids that are so determined nothing you try will stop them. Until they make a 6 foot gate with a slick, oily surface, my boys are not staying put. I hope you have better luck than I do, but if your babes are good climbers, be prepared that whatever you get may only work for a short, short while.
