Gassy Twin?

So, my twins are four weeks old. My boy weighed 7 pounds at birth, my girl 5. They are 50/50 feed formula and breastmilk. My girl, the smaller one, is SO gassy! No matter what she is being fed, she has a horrible time burping or farting! She works at it for days! While she sleeps she grunts and makes loud noises, often waking herself up, while trying to rid her body of gas. Any ideas on how to help ease her pain? I don't want to give her mylicon (sp?) EVERY feeding.... is there anything else I can do? I watch what I eat, so the BF milk won't make her too gassy, and I use SIMILAC Advance. Is there a different formula that is easier on the tummy?

We switched formula from similac and it seemed to help. We did it slowly over a few days. Also, we give them mylicon drops which seem to help with the gas when they get extremely gassy.

Which formula do you use? Is there a better one for gassy babies?

My pediatrician said to put a few drops of chamomille tea in their bottle to help with gas. Haven't tried this yet, but will have to soon because on of my LO's is experiencing the same thing. He is so loud and does a lot of grunting in his sleep.

I had to switch my girls to Enfamil AR to help with gas and spitting up.

Mine were very very gassy. Dr. Brown's bottles helps a lot, they don't allow for a lot of air to get in there.

I don't know if you have preemies or not... I did, and I found out later that it's pretty common for preemies to have a lot of gas/grunting problems.

The good news is that it goes away. Mine are almost 5 months and they haven't been doing the grunting thing for at least two months now.

We switched to Costco brand for savings and it works for us. We also switched to a slower flow nipple on the bottle which helped them not ingest as much air.

My DD was the gassy one, we did Mylicon drops in every bottle for her up until about 6 months or so. We also switched her formula to Similac Sensitive. My DH also had the idea of using an ice cream scoop (if you use the Playtex liners bottles) to push up the liners to get just about all the air out. She did grow out of the gassiness finally.

Grunting was our first sign of reflux. We had to put a white noise machine in our room to try and get some sleep. :) Is she refusing to eat, arching during feeds, etc. If so, she may have some reflux issues. A formula change may help. We switched to Similac Alimentum and they were treated for reflux. Once they got on the right meds for reflux and the right formula the grunting went away. We also put Mylicon drops in every bottle to decrease the gas bubbles.
