Gassy baby

My wife and I have been experimenting with a couple of products to help with a painfully gassy baby. We've used the Little Tummys drops, and the Mylicon drops as well. They might help a little but it seems that they take some time to activate. We try the de-gassing technique by bringing her knees into her chest and that works sometimes as well. We are feeding expressed breast milk and only one of the twins seems to be affected by painful gas. She also is having bowel movement issues as well. I realize that having a bm every 3 days or so can be normal but her sister goes at least once a day. I'm sure gassy babies are very common and we can't be the only ones experiencing this. Anybody have any solutions that worked for them?

Has your wife considered her diet? I was surprised at the things that seem to distress my twins that didn't distress my singletons.

Otherwise, I'm no help here, and I hope things are better soon.

For me, I think beans, broccolli and brussel sprouts seem to make one of the girls gassy. The other doesn't get phased by it.

I'd recommend looking at her diet, too. My boys were really affected by dairy in my diet the first few months - but now it seems like I can eat anything and they aren't bothered by it.

Here's some info from Kellymom's website (great resource for breastfeeding moms):

    HTH! Good luck!

Thank you for the info. I will forward this on to my wife. How long does it take to notice change? We feel really bad for the little one because she wakes up after an hour of sleep violently screaming in pain. That, in turn, usually wakes her sister which keeps both my wife and I very tired. Thanks again for the help.

I have the same problem but breastfeed more than bottle feed expressed.

Perhaps look into Dr Bown's bottles, they are great and can fit nipples of other bottles so try the ones that you are using now. Also the playtex drop in system is pretty good cause you can squeeze out extra air from the bag.

Also different massage techniques like the one you are using but try different ways like pushing in and down on the babies tummy. Massage works wonders for my boys!

Diet is a big one and I'm a fan of milk (wierd I know). Onions too.

Try different ways of burping as well.
