    hi
my baby boy twin is about 2 1/2 weeks old.. I am noticing him stiffening alot and then releasing gas.. but it seems so painful for him..
does anyone have any remedies? could be that my formula is not good for him?
    thanks

Most newborns are gassy, but if it seems to be bothering him you might want to talk to your ped about it. It could be that he needs a different formula. Have you tried giving him Mylicon drops? Bicycling his legs would help him to get the gas out.

My girls were colicky and were so gassy throughout the day. They would cry when they were passing gas, it was so miserable for them. We tried the drops and the bicycling the legs, etc but nothing worked. We tried 4 different formulas before we found one that worked. We started them on Nestle Good start along with the Dr Brown bottles and colic was gone in 24 hours! Just a thought as it might help but I would talk to your ped about switching formula to make sure it is okay.

My girls were very gassy, amoung other issues. We switched to nestle good start formula which helped a lot. Also, the mylicon drops are great! You can use them on newborns and it actually passes right through the body, it's not absorbed. You can use it at every feeding or up to like 12 times a day if necessary. I never needed it THAT much. But it's good to know.

My daughter was gassy. We would spend hours each night with her crying and rubbing the stomach, doing the bicycle, etc. We finally switched her to Enfamil Gentlease and her gassiness cleared up almost overnight. We haven't had hardly any problems since. I probably should have talked to my doctor about switching, but I didn't.

Hello! I have 5 week old preemies (born at 33 1/2 weeks) and I am also noticing all of these same symptoms with my twin girls. They will arch their backs, cry, stiffen up, etc. Do I have to get it ok'd with my pedi to switch formulas?? Also, my one daughter is still tiny 4 lbs. 12 oz. and they still want her on a 24 calorie diet formula - we are using the Similac Neosure and fortifying it to make it higher calories. Would she be able to switch formulas now or would we probably have to wait? Also, I have noticed that the last few days, both girls seems to be up much more during the day, shouldn't they sleep a lot still? Technically I am not even at my original due date (May 1st).

    Thanks,
    Jen

In response to Jen - I would check with your Dr. before changing. We checked when our babies were little, once they passed the 2 month mark, we stopped checking w/her since Jake's weight gain was good (he was on Neosure when we came home).

one of my DDs is really gassy too but now we kind of figured out ways to help her. Firstly, when you bottle feed her. keep taking breaks to burp her. And to burp, put him on your shoulder and rub his back with circular motions. ALso till he seems to be uncomfortable and even for soemtime after he feeds, dont let him be horizontal. And do start him on some drops to relieve gas. I also started my twins on gripe water when they turned a month old. now they are a month and half and we are learning to manage.

ps: putting him on his tummy will help too.
