My boys seem to be very gassy. . . runs in the family ;o)

I have one who is very hard to burp and his stomach tends to get a little distended before a big fart (hee hee) and it seems to not be comfortable for him.

Any ideas on how to either prevent gassiness (we use Dr. Brown's bottles with EBM) or how to help work it out once it's there (we have just started using Gripe Water and have also used rice in a sock, heat it up and put on belly)?

I can hear both of their bellies gurgle away after a feeding, does this mean I'm not burping them well enough?

Geez, being a mom is TOUGH!

I know a lot of people use Mylicon gas drops - you just put a couple drops in the bottle for gas.

We have this problem too. I use mylicon gas drops as needed and I burp them every 2 ounces. I use a receiveing blanket heated up for 30secs in the microwave on their belly when it gets really bad...kinda like your rice idea, btw sounds clever. I bottle feed and warm their milk to luke warm/warm. It seems to be calming to their little bellies. Anyway, that's what works for mine. I'm sure you'll get plenty of good advice from the pros here!

We did this for about 6 months. It did seem to help them.

A gentle clockwise motion massage around the navel is also said to work. Good luck!

We did gas drops too - Walmart's generic is much cheaper than Mylicon's and it's the same thing. Other places have generics too but they were still more than Walmart. The belly massage helps and if you hold their knees into their chest for a little bit sometimes that will help them work it out too.

Max has terrible gas & since his surgery 3 months ago his cardiologist suggested Mylicon drops before each bottle. It is very mild, but effective. It runs about $14 per bottle here and then I found that targert sold their generic brand, exact same ingredients, for $3.75 per bottle. Works just the same and I can get 3 bottles for almost the price of one.

We would do a little bicycle move with their legs, too. It seemed to get better for our boys after a couple of months. I hope your babies are feeling less gass pains, asap!

My boys were a lot less gassy when they were sleeping in their bouncy seats. I don't know why, but it worked well for us once I tried it around the time they were 2 months old. I also had to eliminate dairy from my diet for a few months as it seemed like they were really sensitive to it the first 3-4 months.

    Good luck!

Mylicon does help sometimes! Burping more often during feedings (like pp said every 2 oz) does help. My DD was extremely gassy. My pedi also recommended chamomille tea (cold or warm) but you want to check with your pedi first. No caffiene so that is good and it is sweet so you don't need to add to it. I know it helped DD when mylicon didn't.

One of my girls was gassy and we laid her on her belly on a boppy pillow or across our arm/lap- the pressure seemed to help her. We also used the Mylicon gas drops.
