My son is 4 1/2 months old and has terrible gas...especially at night! He wakes up grunting, groaning, squirming and raising his legs up sometimes 3-4 times a night. I also have to burp him all the time...even hours after he has eaten. We use the mylicon drops, but they don't really seem to be helping. Is there anything else we can do, or do we just have to wait for him to outgrow it? He currently is eating Enfamil Prosobee formula and we use the playtex bottles with the drop-ins. Would something else work better? Will starting solids help or likely make it worse? Any advice from someone who has been there/done that would be great!

  3. my son had and still has terrible gas. I did notice that after we started baby food, he has bowel movements more frequently and this helps with the gas. Also, he is on Enfamil gentlease formula. that helps as well.

I don't know if Gripe Water would help, but you can always try that. You should definitely consider a change in formula, maybe Good Start. I've also heard that Dr Browns bottles reduce gassiness caused by swallowing too much air but Drop-ins do the same thing so I don't know if that would be a worthwhile investment. I also think you should get his gassiness sorted out before you try solids, solids give most babies at least some gas.

    hi,

MY DS was having the same problem. About a month ago We switched from Similac Advance to Nestle Goodstart and even though that is not why we switched it seems to have helped. Both of mine have really bad gas and lift their legs if they havent pooped in a couple days then after they finally do they are all smiles. One other thing that I do is I mix the formula in advance and put it in the fridge so that it has time to settle after mixing and therefore there are less air bubbles in it.

That is a good idea to try mixing the formula in advance so it has time to settle...I'm definitely going to give that a try. As far as the Gripe Water, is it safe?

Our girls had such awful gas and were up all night sometimes. That is when we decided to put to use the few Dr. Brown's bottles we had gotten at the shower boy did that help we also got the Baby Orajel Gentle Naturals Tummy Soother from Walgreens(I am not sure if that is the same as Gripe water)and that seemed to help alot too. We tried Mylicon but that didnt work for us either.
