I am searching for some ideas on what to play with my babies? We use a lot of containers and put things in and out, use balls, instruments, books, the basics, but I feel like I am missing lessons. Any ideas would be great! Thanks so much.

    I do a lot of peek-a-boo, ABC's, read books, pattycake, itsy-bitsy spider...

we're finding we have to go out once a day now as they are pointing at the front door a lot, even if its just a walk around the block, they love seeing children and dogs and strange faces :)

Search the internet for some songs and fingerplays. Such as:

    Ten Red Apples

Ten Red apples growing on a tree,
    (hold hands up high)
Five for you and five for me.
(Shake one hand, then the other.)
Help me shake the tree just so,
    (shake whole body.)
And ten red apples down below.
    (Lower hands while fluttering fingers.)
    One, two, three, four, five,
    (count fingers on one hand.)
    Six. Seven, eight, nine, ten.
    (Count fingers on opposite hand.)

They will love them! I did preschool/daycare for many years and the little ones loved to sing and dance. Also depending on how daring you are you can try finger painting with pudding. Another fun game we did with our infants was setting up a large basket (laundry basket or whatever), rolling up socks and letting them toss them in. A fun "Science" lesson is to take empty plastic pop bottles, pull off the labels. Fill it up about a 1/3 of the way full with baby or vegetable oil, add sequins, glitter, beads (whatever) then fill it up to the neck with water. Glue the lid on and you have homemade lava lamps for them to shake and watch.
Those are just a few ideas, I have lots more if you are interested!

    Those are GREAT!! Thanks Everyone!

Twinlillies, I would love to know more...if you have time! I am feeling really bad because my babies cannot really clap without me helping them...how do I get them to clap?

I sit with my 2 in my lap (one at a time of course) and do patty-cake. So they can visually see the act of me clapping from the right perspective. Then I hold their hands and do it. Mine are getting pretty good at it ... but Addi still bangs on her chest most of the time LOL. They'll get it eventually, don't worry.

Some other fun activities you can do with them.
Sing 'Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes' doing the actions with their hands and then with your own.
Sit them in the tub with a small dishpan (or outside if weather permitting) of water with cups, spoons and bowls. Throw in a touch of food coloring for a change.
Get a chalk board and foam brushes and let them 'paint' with water. It dries quickly and they can paint over and over, with little mess.

Mostly songs, stories, and movement will go over well with them at this age. When you sing make BIG facial expressions and sing in different tones, volumes and voices. They're like little sponges and pretty soon you'll see them imitating everything you do. Have fun and just experiment!

We like to do things that keep us busy, so peek-a-boo, hide and seek, tag, and hiding toys are easy and free!
