I'm sure this is common, but I have a bit of a pickle.

Not every night, but most nights, between 11 & 3ish, one of my boys (2 weeks old Monday) will not sleep and is almost inconsolable. I feed him, he's burped and changed, but is very irritable. Sometimes we think it's gas- you'll get a big burp out of him later, but that could be because he's cried & taken in too much air, too, right? Is it too early for those gas drops?

We rock him, let him suck on digits, bouncy seats, swings, lay him flat, cuddle him in our bed...

The one thing that worked one time was to put this archaic swing my parents sent out that swings front/back in our walk in closet with the light on, him swinging on the high setting, door partially shut. I don't really want him sleeping with the lights on, but have noticed that if I take him to the living room, turn on the lights to soothe him, wait until he's calm and start approaching our dark bedroom, his eyes pop open and he's awake again.

    Help.

Last night I didn't really sleep until 4am. He screamed/cried for 3 hours.

It's not too early for the gas drops, we started them with my DD when she was a week old. I started giving her the gas drops with every bottle. Eventually we had to change the formula to Similac Sensitive.

You might also try gripe water. It didn't do anything for my guys, but I know it's helped a lot of people and it's very safe.

I have also found that warming up a receiving blanket in the microwave for 20sec or so and placing it on their lower back really helps soothe and help with any abdominal cramps if there are any. we also used gripe water and oval drops.

At this point, I would do what works. Emma slept in her swing all night for the first 3 months for that very reason.

I'm with Becky, whatever works at that age. I would try the gas drops & if sleeping in the swing works, go for it!

Another vote to go with what works. Mine slept in their swings, on us, or in their bouncies for the first 3 months due to reflux. We went cold turkey into the crib at 4 months without issue.

I don't have anything to offer because we're going through the same thing here (my twins were born the same day as yours) but in my case it's both twins that get fussy in the middle of the night. They like to tag team me. One will fuss and as soon as that one settles, the other one will start up. I think mine have their days and nights messed up, though. Just wanted to give you a  and let you know you're not alone.

Simethicone is safe from the beginning. It isn't absorbed into the system, just passes through it to condense the bubbles and make them easier to pass. When I nursed, I gave them at every evening and night feeding when I burped to switch sides. With the twins who were bottle fed, I squirted the dose directly into the bottle right before feeding. That way it broke up any bubbles that got in as they sucked so they wouldn't swallow those bubbles. Made a huge difference!

Both of you sound like us. It's either one or the other (tag teaming) or one who is fussy from about 8 til 12:30 or 1. I haven't used either the gas drops or the gripe water yet since I was unsure if they were too young still. Good luck, you're definitely not alone!!!!!
