fussy eater

One of our girls has always been a fussier eater than the other (she is the smaller one too!). She will usually eat a couple of ounces (BF or bottle), then fight us tooth and nail to finish the rest. BUT, when she was getting up in the middle of the night to eat, she would down an entire 5 ounce bottle in twenty minutes! So, we KNOW she can eat!

Now that we are introducing Rice cereal, she is fussy with that too. She doesn't seem to like the spoon in her mouth. If I put some on my finger and then put it in her mouth, she is fine (Ok, so she makes a few faces still, but at least she lets it in her mouth!).

Is this all normal? Oh, and she is the one who is on some reflux medicine too. Is she just going to be our "picky eater"? Or are we missing something? We have tried everything...warming up the food more, feeding her at different times, different positions, different bottles...She just doesn't want to eat! (At least not when she is awake!). Her best times continue to be when she is half asleep. I'm afraid that our other baby is going to just take off and pull away from her (she is already more than a pound bigger than the first) as we start introducing solids and our picky one won't eat them.

    Any advice??

How old are they? It could be that she is just going to be fussier & maybe even smaller. As far as the solids go, I would just keep offering them, I bet she will eventually begin to like them more. How is her reflux? Is it under control or is it possible she needs to have her meds changed or the dosage tweaked a bit?

They are just over 5 months old (4 months, adjusted). This morning's cereal feeding went much better...she actually let the spoon in her mouth and didn't cry at all! Making progress there.

I'm not sure if her meds are correct. I don't think she has a severe case of acid reflux, at least the doctor doesn't think so either. We have tried cutting back one of her doses and it hasn't seemed to affect her (positively or negatively). So, my guess is, she is just going to be our fusser! :(

I had refluxers(one major spitter, and one mostly silent refluxer), and by what you are describing it sounds as if reflux is the culprit. My babies would often eat better at night for some reason, than during the day. What meds is she on? Have you tried cutting dairy out of your diet?
