My 3 month old boys have been diagnosed with reflux and are on Zantac. We gave tried formulas Enfamil Enfacare Lipil for preemies as they were 35 weeks, Good Start and Nutramigen. Baby A seems to be outgrowing his stomach issues while Baby B is getting worse over the last two weeks. Ben cries a lot from 6-10 pm or so every night. Any recommendatons. We have been using Mylicon. i am going to try Gripe water and maybe soy formula.
Has anyone found anything to help with congestion besides the bulb. Help...
    thanks everybody

Could he have a Milk, Soy and/or Milk and Soy allergy. This is what my boys had which is why they were always congested, had runny noses and onetime blood in their stools. It took until they were about 2/3m and going through four different formulas that Alimentum worked for us. They stayed on this until 11.5m and switched to whole cow's milk with no problem. just a suggestion...GL!

Do you keep his head elevated at night? That will help stuff drain. Also my Sean was a big cryer until he was about 4 months old. I would either bounce him on my knee (with his tummy over my leg and my forearm supporting him while bouncing, very uncomfortable but the crying stopped) or you can try the "colic carry" by putting the heel of your palm in his tummy and letting him rest along your forearm with legs and arms dangling.

With DS we have to always have a humidifier at night and when he was little we had to roll up a blanket or towel and put under the end of his mattress to make sure he was sleeping at an angle. He was still a little congested all the time but it helped tremendously. HTH

Are you sure he is congested??? Early on I noticed one of my sons breathed so loudly and often times sounded like he was snoring. People would comment if we were out. After this going on for weeks and weeks, i talked to my DR. and he was diagnosed with 'larynxgomalaysia'. Big fancy medical term for 'soft larnyx'. It is simply a condition where his larynx is soft/immature. It is something that corrects itself usually within a year. It was so alarming before the daignoses because it was constant.

my boys also have reflux and are on prevacid. When I brought this breathing concern to my dr. early on and they dismissed it saying congestion goes along with reflux. I stayed with my gut instinct that this was not normal congestion. I am glad i did because i finally got an answer to why he sounded like this

    HI there,

I second the post re: dairy protein or soy intolerance. I breastfeed and have just removed dairy from my diet (and subsequently from my sons') Wyatt's reflux has dissappeared and his stuffy nose (and snoring) has pretty much ceased.

He has also started sleeping better (at about 4 weeks into the new diet)

It may be worth investigating this.

    Good Luck

Reflux also causes congestion and my guess is the Zantac has lost it's effectiveness. At least that's what happened with my girls. Have they had a growth spurt maybe and need to be adjusted? Or maybe even talk to your pedi or GI about a different medication. Prevacid has worked wonders for us, but I've heard some success stories with others as well. You can buy crib wedges to put under the mattress and it's just a slight incline, but enough so they aren't laying flat on their backs.
