Fussing/Crying at night?

    Hello,

My 3.5 month old daughters have slept through the night (from 9pm to 6am) for the last four nights. We didn't do anything special, they just stopped waking up at 3am to eat all of a sudden. I'm thrilled, but haven't gotten a lot of extra sleep because they both cry out, sob, moan, fuss, etc. during the night. They have been pretty quiet from 9pm to 1 or 2am, but then the noise starts. I will hear one of them yell on the monitor and come into their room only to find two sleeping babies. They're both quiet for five minutes, then another sob, or loud fussy moaning sounds that last for a minute or so. They'll keep this up for 20 minutes but not wake up. Then it's all silent for a half an hour or an hour and the noises start again. Both girls make noise, and both sound like they're waking up to eat, but neither does. This continues right up until 6ish when they wake up

Did anyone else experience this? Several times I have put pacifiers in the mouth of the "loud" girl so as not to wake the other, but they seem content to stay asleep until the morning. I'm wondering how long this fussy/loud stage during the night lasts and if anyone found a way to help their twins get good sleep without making tons of noise?

    Thanks!
    Trish

Hi! I don't have advice for you since my boys are the same way and they're almost 5 months old! I know it can be frustrating and exhausting to ave such restless sleepers. I'm curious as to what others will say or haveexperienced.

My kids all do that, it's just a part of their natural sleep cycle. I have made it a rule not to go into their room unless they are hysterical or they've fussed for more than 5 minutes. As far as sleeping through the moans, I just turn down the monitor a bit so I can still hear them cry but not hear the "little" noises so much.

We are doing the same thing riht now. I fell more exhaisted then when they were newborns.. BUT then the fist few weeks with them is quite foggy.
I started 2 nights ago not going in unless they cried for 2 minutes. Then I just pop the paci in and hope it works..

Sounds like gas maybe, I had this with both babies, and still do on occasion, and just go in and burp them in their rooms and don't talk to them or they will wake and want attention. Mine can sleep through the others blood hurdling screams.

My boys started doing this about 2 weeks ago and we are handling it the same way - i call it "WIO" (whine it out). It seems to be working, though slowly, as they are whining/fussing a little less every night. If it's not gas (and it is sometimes gas in our case) then I'd just let them make their noises - I wouldn't go in there unless it's major whining/fussing or if there's crying.

I figured I'd update... another somewhat sleepless night for me, but lots of sleep for the girls. They fell asleep at 9:30 and were quiet until 12:45 when Ellie yelled. Just once. She did it again at 1:05, then 1:20. I had to pump anyway so I went in to check on her. Fast asleep. She got real fussy right about 2am, moving around, moaning a bit, yelling, and just generally sounding hungry. They both sleep on reflux wedges, so I just stuck a bottle in her mouth and she took 2 ounces without waking up. Then fell fast asleep until 4am when she yelled again. And again at 5am. Vivian got into the act about 5:30 and they both fussed on and off until 5:50 when I woke them up to eat.

The yelling doesn't really sound like reflux pain, but it could be. Who knows? I had the monitor turned down as low as it could go, so I didn't hear the fussing, just the yells. I didn't have to put any pacifiers in at all last night, and didn't pick anyone up, so perhaps we're moving in the right direction...

Just to let you know, mine boys still do that now. I can't figure it out either. My best guess is that they wake up a little bit and decide they are uncomfortable and whine and yell until they find a comfy spot and position to sleep in again. Unless the noise gets really loud, I don't go in until they are quiet so that I can fix their covers. Don't you wish they could tell you exactly what the problem was? It would make things alot easier! :)
