So i had my 14 week dr appt today and when i had my ultrasound it looks like the placentas have fused together. Previously there were two separated completely. Is it unusual for them to fuse later on? Did anyone else have this happen? She said she wasn't worried about it and they would probably know more when i get my big ultrasound at my next appt. The babies also decided to switch from side to side to top and bottom, busy lil ones! They're healthy and active though, everything seems good so far.

My 2 placentas were not fused at the 20 week US but they were at the 25 week US. I'm not sure if fused means that they are touching, but mine are touching just above my belly button. One of the babies cords was also at the edge of the placenta at the 13 week US but centered itself by 25 weeks so I think they are just always moving as they grow.

Mine were fused as well. I had my first ultrasound at 14 weeks, so we don't know when it happened. They thought all along it was one until I delivered. Glad to hear everything is good!!

We were fused too. So much so that the u/s techs and dr's were positive there was only one. We learned they were fused after delivery. I think it's pretty common.

My placentas were fused too. Not sure at what point they fused. We found out it was twins at 21 weeks, and they were already fused by that point.

Mine were fused from the get-go. In fact, we didn't even know it til the placenta came back from the pathology lab-we thought they were mono-di til they were a week old!

Mine was fused too and we think that is one reason why my twins were a lb different in weight (5lb12oz and 6lb12oz)

They couldn't tell if the membranes were seperate so they said they were fused, however it may all change by next appt. I think it's more important if they are sharing a sac and/or chorion membrane to tell if they are identical or not. But there is alot of debate on the internet. Long as they are growing, got enough fluid to move around, I think it's okay. But I"m with you, I still don't know what that means in relation to the twins or me. Ugh Doctors!!!!

My twins are non identical boys and their placentas were fused. No one knew that until I delivered. Every ultrasound I had showed two sacks and two separate placentas. When I delivered the placentas and they were fused together, the midwives where shocked. So I have no idea when they fused. I had a scan two days before I delivered and the tech didn't say they were fused together then. Twin B's growth really slowed down between the scans I had at 32 weeks and 36 weeks, so I wonder if the placentas fusing had anything to do with that. He weighed nearly 3lbs less than his brother. At the 32 week scan, they were about the same size.
