Yesterday I was with some friends and one of their moms. They were shocked when I said my boys were fraternal because my boys look very similar (not if you see them all the time though). I began to explain the differences between fraternal/identical and then my friends mom said, "Oh yeah, they have to be fraternal since they were born at different times!"

I could not resist...I just gently said, 'oh yes and even identical twins are born at separate times'!

Mine are identical, and let me tell you, I am SO glad that even identicals are born at different times! I'm trying to imagine the logistics of their being born at the same time, and it sure doesn't seem like it would be pretty! [IMG]

You're right, its not pretty. I had a vertical incision that they opened as far as humanely possible (read this as top of pubic bone to bottom of belly button and I measured 54 weeks pregnant at the time) the inscision was at least 20 inches. Anyway, in my case, they attempted to deliver baby a first. They sliced an opening in what they THOUGHT was side of the gestational sac that contained him and tried to lift him out. They lifted the entire gestational sac out of my uterus and onto the operating field, and baby B slid out the hole they made, while they are holding onto baby A and trying to get the sac off of him. So I delivered them at the same time.

A lady once said my twins must be fraternal because one was happy and the other was crying. I feel bad for ID twins, they must get asked some pretty dumb questions. (How do you tell yourselves apart?)

Mine are ID and we do get a lot of dumb comments from strangers....but my all-time favorite is when their grandfather tells me I can't tell them apart just because he can't. They are identical, but if you've ever seen pics of my boys...they are very obviously different (one is bigger)

    That is a GOOD one!

My favorite that I have received is "Are they twins or two different babies?!" As if "twins" meant they were one person!

    Thanks for the chuckle. [IMG]

Someone at the grocery checkout line (the checker) asked me since they look exactly alike then they MUST be fraternal identical twins... right? [IMG]

How funny! One of DH's cousins asked me that same thing Saturday. He said, "So they were like born a minute or two apart right?" and I said " Ya, 3 minutes" so he said "Oh, so they aren't twins then, becuase they weren't born at the same time" I said no "No, they are still twins, and I am really glad they weren't born at the same time" The funniest part is that earlier that morning he had sent me a myspace quiz that asked what my biggest pet peeve was and I said it was stupid people who asked if my babies were twins. And yes he was totally serious when he asked.
