I have been on bed rest at home now for seven days. I went in last week and my cervix had shortened to 2.4 from 4 1/2 three weeks before. I was just wondering what other people have experienced with a shortening cervix. How fast did you shorten out, once you started shortening, how long were you able to keep your babies inside. We're 27 weeks 4 days today. I'm dealing with bed rest alright, have lots of wonderful help and watching lots of TV, but i'm just wondering what to expect with the DR's in the next few weeks.

I don't remember what my exact numbers were, but I had a Dr's appt 3 days before I ended up going to L&D and my cervix changed significantly in that time. I was funnelled, dilated, positive fFN, and contracting continuously. I was 24 weeks when I was admitted into the hospital on strict bedrest because all of this. I made it to 28 weeks 1 day at which point I was dilated so much they could feel Kylee's head and they were scared I was going to deliver them naturally, so they took me down for an emergency c-section.

Has your Dr given you the steroid shots to help with the babies lungs? My best advice would be to follow your Dr's orders, and listen to your body. Don't second guess your instincts. Good Luck! Bedrest is incredibly hard, but ever so worth it!

Mine shortened somewhere between 20 weeks (it was over 4) and then when I went back for my next appt. at 23w6d it was around 1. :icon_eek: I had an emergency cercglage the next day. Unfortunately 10 days later Emilie popped out at home. So I didn't hold onto my babies (that doesn't sound right because it sounds as if I did something wrong and I didn't) much longer. The good news is they are absolutely perfect! :)

You just don't know. I have read stories on here where people go another 10 weeks and others that only go a few days. Hang in there. :hug99:

    Hi there,
I was hospitalized at 23 wks and 6 days. My cervix had been holding at 2.9 with twins. It suddenly dropped down to .6 with some significant funneling. I started on procardia, got the shots for the babies lungs and I'm taking the p-17 shots weekly. Tomorrow I will start my 9th week of BR and on Saturday I will be 32 weeks. I've been on BR at home most of the time, with a few trips to the hospital in between. After BR, my cervix lengthened to between 1.6-2 and it seems to be holding there for now.

Hang in there...I never thought I would make it this far, so you never know what can happen.

I went on home bedrest at 18 weeks because I had gone from 3 something to 2.2.
Then, at 19 weeks, it was down to 2.0, at which point the perinatologist recommended
the cerclage. My OB put in the cerclage the next day. I continued home bedrest
until I delivered at 35 weeks and 5 days.

I got the shots at around 27 weeks. Early on, I just prayed to make it to 28 weeks.
I can't believe I made it that far! I was very strict with my bedrest. I ate lying
on the couch or bed. I showered every other day instead of every day. I only
moved from the bed to the couch. The only time I went into the kitchen was to
grab a water. My mom came over every day and made my lunch.

Once I had the cerclage, I went in every other week to get a length check. It stayed
at 2 for a few weeks, then to 1.7, then to 1.3, and by that time they said I didn't need
to get it checked. I was 32 weeks and out of the woods!

    Good luck!

Thanks for the input, i went back in yesterday, and the ultrasound tech said i had shortened from 2.4 to 1.9 and said the babies were in the 7th and 14th percentage, so my DR got nervous made me go down for the stress tests and had a perinatalologist come see me. They also gave us the steroid shots for the babies lungs just in case. I was very concerned they were going to admit me, but the specialist got much different readings, 2.6 on my cervix and said the boys are in the 35th and 40th percentiles so she said we looked good, just keep bed rest at home. so for now I'm just hanging out and taking advantage of my MIL for the next few weeks.

From 26 to 28 weeks I went from 5 to 2.5 with funneling, and I went home on strict bedrest, only getting up to use the restroom. I went back a week later and had lengthened back to 4 with no funneling, so bedrest can help!

Drink lots, LOTS, of water, and keep that pressure off of your cervix as much as you possibly can. Hang in there. I made it to 37 weeks! :hug99:

Thanks for your input. I went in last Friday and my cervix had lengthened and the funneling was much less. I go in again tomorrow to check on the length so I'm hoping it stays longer.

hello everyone...i just found this website today! i am so glad that i did. it's good to know that there are others out there who are experiencing the same thing that i am. at 20 wks., i went for a regular checkup to find out that i had began funneling. my doctor immediately admitted me to the hospital, and i had an emergency cerclauge performed the next day.

i stayed in the hospital following the surgery for a little under a week, and came home only to be put on COMPLETE bedrest. i am now 24 weeks, and taking it easy. my doctor has advised to hit milestones. the first was making it to 24 weeks, and now i am working on my second milestone - 28 weeks. so far NO contractions! yippies!

    both babies (boy/girl) are fine!

If I remember correctly, my cervix was 2.9 at 26 weeks. I was taken out of work at that time. It was 6 weeks before I had my girls. They were still 8 weeks early. It seemed like I could go a couple weeks with no shortening & then all of a sudden. I would shorten 1/2 a centimeter or so. By the time it was short enough to require a cerclage, it was too late for one. My OB used a pessary to keep pressure off the cervix, but I only had it for a couple weeks before the babies were born.

At 24.5 weeks my cervix shrunk to 1.3 cm. I got rushed to L&D and found out i was also contracting (which i couldn't feel). Got the steroid shots, fluid, and admitted to hospital (the start of my bedrest). Too late for cerclage. At 26 weeks I began funneling but cervix stayed the same. At 28 weeks my cervix had shrunk down to 0.3 cm!! well, to make a long story short, i am at 34 weeks and still no babies. My dr. is pretty amazed and so am I! I am off strict bedrest now and can do more, but my feet are so swollen they hurt when I walk around too much!!! ugh, I can't win!

I had gotten a pessary cerclage at 22 weeks, with my son, started having cervical changes happen at 16 weeks went on to modified bedrest. I delivered him the day the cerclage was removed, I was 35w 6d along with him. I was hospitalized at 30 weeks with him, due to 100% effacment and 1cm dialated (thanks to the pessary keeping me closed) I got the steroid shots and sent home after 2 days on complete bedrest aside from bathroom and food. Had to learn to suck from a bottle so they kept him 10 days.

My twins I got a stitch cerclage at 13 weeks and no issues at all, no bedrest needed. I delivered them at 35w 5d after my water broke at home. They came home with me

when the ob Dr. that was on call the day I had my ultrasound I measured at 2.3cm. When he sent me down to the Perinatalogist a week later I had no measurement was completely opened then. I had to be driven down to the hospital by ambulance to have a rescue cerclage done . I had that Aug. 5 2008 an am on complete bedrest till due. I had the cerlage done when I was 20 weeks, I am not due till Dec. 18 so they say but I know I will end up having these twins alot sooner than that! I am now 24 weeks an 2 days so far.
