I just have to get this off my chest!

I've been in the hospital for 11 weeks. I've gotten to know my nurses and we all have a very solid routine for the day. They know me and the babies.

Well, evey now and then, I'll get a 'fill-in' nurse. (Usually if one of my regulars calls out or takes a day off or something like that...) The fillers usually come up from L&D.

Well, today I have this lady, this is the third time I've had her, and she's really nice. But she's so anal!! ARG!!!! She goes over my chart with a fine tooth comb and comes up with things/tests she thinks I need and then has one of my (many) doctors write an order for it. Last week she decided I need NSTs 3 times a day!!!! The thing that really bothered me with that is that the babies ALWAYS do so wonderful and have wonderful strips. I do not contract on any regular basis. (Sometimes as few as 4-5 times a day!) I did not understand why she did this. Well, my regular nurses just dismiss it and we go on with our daily NST- just the one! (They agree that she's really very nice and sweet, just very very uptight. And they agree that I do not need all those NSTs.)

Well, today she told one of my doctors that I haven't been wearing these boots. (When I was first on bed rest I didn't get up for the bathroom except for BM so the doctors had me wearing these boots that inflat and sort of massage your legs to prevent blood clots.) I don't wear them because I do get up now to go to the bathroom and I move my legs all the time. I can not sit still. Well, if you move a lot with the boots on the air tubes get twisted and then the whole machine starts to beeb and it's really annoying. Most of my doctors know I've quit wearing them and are ok with it. Well, of course, she Nurse Busy Body brought it up today the doctor came to talk to me about it. <_<

It's just so annoying because she doesn't know me or my routine. But she tries to make all the decisions about my care plan. I'm glad I'm not here for blood pressure issues!!! She would certainly make that go up!

Anyway, I just need to vent! Thanks for listening! :)

Hmmm. That would be frustrating. I'd think the doctors would be upset with her for trying to do their job. Nurses don't usually develop treatment plans, they carry them out.

I know your frustration with the boots. I had them when I was in the hospital in June for OHSS and they are a huge pain. Did the doctor make you put them back on or did he let it go when you explained.

Hang in there. You've made it to 33 weeks!!

11 weeks, bless your heart! I hope you get a nice nurse tomorrow!! Maybe she's just trying to be extra careful since she may not be used to that floor. I'm a nurse and sometimes they try to have us go other places to help out and I hate it because I feel like I don't know what I'm doing.
Most places don't require the boots if you are allowed up to go to the bathroom. That's odd that they would have you start wearing them again.

Hang in there!! You're doing an awesome job!

OMG Gina, I feel your frustration. I'm having a really bad hospital day today too. I've had this doctor rounding on me for the last week who is not my regular doctor (just because that's how it works in a teaching hospital) and she made me so mad this morning. She thinks that waving across the hallway is akin to coming into my room and seeing me. So today as I'm being wheeled back from my BPP she waves and then the nurse later tells me that she's left and written a note already on me. So I asked the nurse if she could call her and let her know I had some questions. (I'd just completed a 24 hour urine collection over the weekend and wanted to know the results and plus it's just rude not to actually come in and see how I'm doing). Well, the doctor storms into my room about 15 minutes later saying "is there an emergency in here?". And I'm like "no, not at all". I didn't say anything about an emergency. So then she storms right out after saying she has to see some patients in the ICU first.

I seriously burst into tears after she left. It's not like it's not hard enough to be here for over a month already. I cannot believe how rude she was! I'm supposed to be allowed to go home in a week but this episode really makes me want to ask if I can just go home today. I called my regular doctor after this happened to see if she could come by and see me today. I'm just so upset about this.

Allboys- It's such a shame people have to act that way, isn't it?! I think you guys should get some of those tee-shirts that say JUST GO AWAY on them. ;)

SoBlessed, I think most of my docs agree that I don't have to wear them anymore. I think the only reason I got 'talked' to about it today is that it's still in my chart and she's not my regular OB, just the partner doing rounds today. Once we talked about how much I'm moving around it was ok.

Allboys- How rude! I would be so mad too if a doctor treated me that way! Hopefully you'll get to go home soon and won't have to worry about it. It's amazing really how a little niceness can make a patient feel better. Hopefully you're day will get better! (I just ordered a brownie and ice cream to help my day! )

I was hoping that I'd get to go home next week, but my MFM doc would rather me stay. But he did say that he'll have my cerclage taken out at 35wks and we can see what happens from there. I don't want the babies to have to stay longer than me (after delivery) but I'm so done being here! I'm ready to go home!

I do have to say the bright spot of the day is that I do get to have 30 minutes in a wheelchair on Wed! My DH is going to bring my puppy up here and the nurse (one of my regulars!) is going to wheel me outside so I can see her! I'm so excited! I haven't seen my cat or dog since being here and I miss them so much!

Ok...this is an easy one! Just ask to speak to the Charge Nurse....and request she not be back in your room! you have the right to say who can and can't come in your room and perform your care!!!

I would be beyond aggervated with her !!!

    take care,

    Missy
