I spent the night at the ER last night for my asthma. They put me back on Prednisone, which elevates blood sugar, and because I am past the 20 week mark, I have to take my blood sugar 4 times a day. I was told to call my OB today and explain what happened, and that I need an appointment sooner then the 22nd of Sept, due to my blood sugar levels. Well I called the office and the secretary was so rude, she was like well I can give you one for the week before. The ER doctor wanted me to see her by Monday the latest. I explained to her what happened, and her attitude was the so what kind. So I said forget and and kept my original appointment on the 22nd. I know how to monitor and control my blood sugar, but what if I didnt?

I'm so sorry that you had to deal with the snotty receptionist, and really when your sick or prego with twins, who has the energy to waste on a fight just to get healthcare! That is their job to get you in asap, it might mean giving you someone else's regular check up time and more work for her, but that is her job, uhhhh! I hope that this month goes by fast so you can see your doctor, and good luck with your monitoring.

Ummmmmm, you went to the ER and part of your discharge instructions were to see your OB by Monday. You need to call and ask for your doctor's nurse and INSIST that you be seen. Thats not really optional under these circumstances. You're not trying to change the date of a check up.

I know. I was steaming. I took my sugar level an hour after eating and it was 9.3, not suppose to be more then 6.0, 8.0 at the MOST and that is pushing it. I think in the US you dont use the decimal point, any way you look at it, IT'S way to HIGH! All I had was a grilled chicken salad for lunch!

If you can't get past the receptionist, drop off a note with the whole story addressed to your doctor and marked "private"...I'll bet your doctor will call you immediately!

Is there not anything other than Prednisone for your asthma, that won't raise your blood sugar?

Yeah that's way too high, definitely call her back and let her have it heehee. OR what about calling the ER doc and telling them and asking if they could contact your doc as you can't seem to get past his receptionist to get an earlier appointment. ;) Good luck momma!!! Try and take care!

I wish. Because I had a severe attack yesterday, the only thing they can give me to get it under control again fast and effectively is prednisone.

I was in contact with L&D all day today, had to call every hr pretty much with movement updates and sugar levels. At one point I was up to 9.9! I am back down to regular level, and both babies are now moving great. They want me to call my OB again in the morning. I may try the letter thing.

I am sorry to hear about your trip to ER. I would definetly call your doc and speak with the nurse or office manager and explain the situation and ask to be seen ASAP. Good Luck!

If it were me I would ask to speak to the Doctor directly. I hate office staff that acts like that!

Well I called back this morning, and they moved my appointment to the 3rd of sept after my U/S. Not as close as I wanted it, but better then the 22nd!

That's definitely better, I would mention it to your doc when you see them, they should know their staff is interfering with patients medical issues. If anything were to happen who knows they could be liable if she didn't do the right thing and at least ask the doc if you could be squeezed in. Here's to hoping everything gets better for you before your appointment!
