I know I've posted this before but I just get so frustrated with how messy my boys are!! At first we thought it was just bc they were preemies and their suck reflex...well..sucked:) Now at 6 1/2 months they have gotten better-- we used to go through a bib and burp cloth per feeding (soaked!) now we can use the same ones all day...except rags bc they like to chew on those too:) Anyways....does it get better?!?!?!? I'm at my wits end trying to keep their clothes dry! Their bibs come home from daycare soaked!!!!!!!!!! Which is also frustrating bc DH and I can feed them and keep them somewhat clean so WTH are they doing???
We have tried every brand of nipple and bottle out there...finally we found they like the Evenflo comfort fit (?) and medium nipples although I think they could go back to slow now that we cut them off of cereal. Is anyone else dealing with this??? It doesn't help that they want to look at everything too which I could prolly stand more if they weren't already "leaking" all over the place!!!

    OK, vent over...thank you:)

I would go back to the slow flow. Do they take pacis? I wonder if that would help strengthen their suck? Or do they suck and then let it pool in their mouth before swallowing? Have you asked the ped?

My boys weren't messy eaters but were big droolers around that time. I'd go through bib after bib and still have to change their clothes b/c they were soaked. Eventually I got the bibs that have plastic on the back so their shirts wouldn't get wet too. I think I found them at BRU. They were a little big for a bit, but well worth saving me all the laundry! I hope you find a solution to all that mess!

I am going through this exact same thing with my DD! In fact, I was just thinking this morning that I should post on here about this!

My Addison is super messy no matter what nipple we give her. She doesn't look around or anything. While she's drinking, half of it pours out her mouth. She has never had NICU time and does not have a suction problem (is very strong). She soaks a burp rag with almost every feeding. I have seen her not hardly spill anything before although it is rare. I used to bf and if I gave her breast milk from the bottle, she NEVER spilled. So I don't know what is going on. She also seems to forget to breath sometimes while she's drinking and will pull her head back to take a breath through the nose, but even if she is breathing fine, she spills. I've talked to the pedi about this but he didn't have any answers. First he said it will get better with age (he said this at her 1 month appt.) but it hasn't. When I brought it up again at the two month appt. he said to try saline drops in her nose but her nasal passages are clear.

I don't get it either. I completely understand your frustration! If anyone has any ideas for us, I look forward to hearing them!

Oy, they don't take pacis anymore but their suck is improved its the swallow part haha! They don't really let it pool its almost like most babies have a dribble here or a dribble there but theirs is a constant flow dribble. I have asked the pedi when they were small and I was doing laundry forever and a day it seemed and they said they would get stronger and outgrow it. I'm thinking we're beyond repair and this is how they've learned to eat! At least they eat well with a spoon!

But yes if anyone has any other ideas (I think I am gonna go back to slow and see how they do) I would love to hear!!

All I can think is to try the slow flow, otherwise you may just have messy eaters! ;) My daughter has a much smaller mouth than my son and she can't get her bottom lip poked out like his does, so she drools more. My son just suctions right on and doesn't drool much unless he's tired and falling asleep!

i had a messy eater, basically he wouldn't swallow the formula. I found that when i heated the bottles up a little bit more (i was just taking them to room temp) he swallowed it and haven't had a problem since.
