we started the kids on rice and veggies a few weeks ago. i remember reading somewhere to hold off on the fruit as it is sweet and the kids will like the sweetness and not want their veggies. is this true?? should i give them some fruit now?? we have only done carrots, peas and sweet potatoes...thx!

Our pedi recommended to go through all cereals first: Rice, Oatmeal, then Barley. Then do veggies:greens first, then orange colored, then yellows. Finally she said to move on to fruits. My DS doesn't care though. He loves EVERYTHING so far!!! [IMG]

[IMG] I must be all wrong then, b/c I started w/ rice cereal, oatmeal cereal, & then went on to fruits & veggies. We usually do fruits w/ cereal in the am & veggies in the evening. So far, they haven't turned anything away. We have had bananas, applesauce, pears(which they love) & green beans & sweet potatoes, yummmy [IMG]

I don't think it makes one bit of difference. My DS liked everything and I started with veggies with him and as soon as he hit 2, BAM! he hated everything! Now at 4, he eats like 7 things over and over again, and veggies and fruit and meat took the big back seat!

So really --- it doesn't matter!

I've heard both: Do veggies first so they don't get used to the sweetness. Or do fruit first because they are more likely to like them. I don't think it makes any difference either way. I have one child who eats everything and one who eats nothing, and I fed them both the same things at the beginning.

We alternate w/each new food - a veggie, then a fruit - so far the boys will eat it all - Dylan actually likes the veggies a little better than the fruits, Tyler likes the fruit better - but they both eat them all - I do a serving of each everyday.

We've done yams, butternut squash, green beans, peas, carrots, cauliflower, peaches, pears, bananas, apples, avocado, plums, prunes, and of course, rice, oatmeal and barley.

With my boys my ped started us with rice cereal. At 4 months he said fruits (only non citrus) and yellow and orange veggies. He said feed the same thing for a few days just in case allergies. He had us wait on the green.he said they were gassy.hth.

It wasn't true for ours. One of them actually prefers veggies to fruit, and the other one is netural. She'll eat either.

I mix them up. Fruit/cereal in the am, veggie in the pm.
