My babies drink their bottles straight from the fridge so I know they won't have a problem with cold milk but I was thinking about freezing some little cubes to put in their mesh feeders (since they love ice cubes so much) but I'm not sure how it will expand or anything?! Anyone else done this????

and with sippy cups. I offer them to them every time they are in their high chairs with either water or milk but they just bang them around and throw them on the ground. What age do they tend to "get it" that its for drinking not playing? Thanks:)

I have never frozen formula so I'm not sure how well it freezes. :pardon: If you decide to give it a try, let us know how it goes.

As for sippies, just keep offering them, they will get it eventually. Sometimes if you take out the valve, so that they get a drink without having to suck on it, they will get what it's for, then you can put the valve back in & try it that way. Other than that, the only thing I know of that works is time!

I never froze any formula. My girls really got the sippy cups mastered around 12 months old.

I never froze formula either. I googled it and found this "Do not freeze infant formula. Although freezing does not affect nutritional quality or sterility, physical separation of the product's components may occur." from NNCC Guidelines

As for sippy cups, I added them to floor play time and they started "getting it" around 11 months. I didn't push it too much from 7-9 months though.

just keep offering the cups. i've been offering sippies since they were about 8 months old and they're just now starting to get it. in fact today they were both drinking successfully from it, but they needed mommy's help to tip the cup up. they just haven't gotten all of the necessities coordinated yet.

you can also try sippies with soft silicone straws. that way they don't have to tip it up.

i found they were much more interested in the sippies when they saw me drink from them. or like i started sitting down with my own water bottle when they had their sippies and they were fascinated by mommy drinking. so you can try that, too.

i also found the idea clicked more when i started offering sips from my own regular cup. it's a little messy but it's a cup tipped up and liquid entering the mouth. i think some gears clicked into place when i started doing that, so that's another thing you might try.

Mine are just now getting the hang of sippies. We started about a month and a half ago and we just started with the take n toss ones that dont have a valve...then they atleast got the idea that something comes out. Then we moved to a soft spout; straws will be next!

Thanks for the advice on the sippys and the article about frozen formula...I never thought of that!! Maybe I will just freeze some of the pureed baby food for them...they just enjoy their afternoon "Popsicles" so much:)

I introduced sippy cups at 6 months. I took the valve out for the first sip so they'd realize something came out of it. I put the valve back in, and they immediately figured out that now they needed to suck on it to get the water out. I still have to hold the cup, but they get it. I will probably introduce the straw cup in the next week or so. As a speech-language pathologist, I'm a big proponent of early cup introduction. :)

So, I'd try taking the valve out for a sip, and keep offering it daily!
