My boys are now a little over two months old and they have always been loud sleepers, but lately they have taken to "fretting" in their sleep. They cry out in the middle of the night and often I go in their room and they are sound asleep. Is this normal? When will it end? It is causing me to not get hardly any sleep at night. :(

My son is 5 months old and has always been a loud sleeper. Lately he has started crying in his sleep as well. I go in to him and he is sound asleep and crying. I rub his head and he seems to calm down. He doesnt wake up though. This usually happens during naps and within a few hours of going to sleep for the night.

It doesnt happen late in the night though!

My girls do that sometimes too - I hear them and look over and they are sound asleep. I figure they must be having bad dreams, although I am not sure what a 4 month old has to dream about...maybe loud noises and no milk? My two year old still does this occassionally too so while it's normal it might continue. Maybe just try not to get up to check on them unless you think they are really crying. Won't keep you from waking up but maybe it will keep you from getting so awake that it's tough to get back to sleep.

One of my daughters (at seven months) still does this. Never fail, sometime between 2:30 and 3:45 in the morning, she will start wailing and will keep it up for a minute or two. I used to rush in but realized she doesn't need anything. She's asleep and safe and isn't hungry. It's the weirdest thing... and you're right, it makes sleeping through the night for the parents rather hard. I try to tune her out, but so far I haven't been successful.

This happened to us at I dont know, about 6 months or so. I was shaking and thinking I was going to have to go to the ER because I couldnt understand why they would not stop crying. Turns out...they were still asleep. It has happened about twice since then. I just go in and pick up the cryer and rock him back to sleep. I have heard they will grow out of it.

Last night Katie did something similar... she was whinning and it sounded like she was crying as well, along with some irregular breathing for a minute... I woke her up and then she took her paci and went back to sleep.

Do they cry out constantly through out the night or a couple of times a night? My girls used to cry out all night long and squirm the whole time. It was all due to a dairy allergy and soy intolerance. Once we eliminated the allergens then they quietly slept all night. They do cry out every once in a while and I just let them work through it and they go back to sleep on their own. Usually just lasting a few minutes or less.
