i tried to swap a bottle with a sippy yesterday. i was excited because i bought two great new Born Free sippy cups (the ones without the bad chemical Bsphenol A) they were expensive so i got the sippy drinking cup that is supposed to be for 9 months on instead of the sippy with the plug. It looks like a sippy, has a sippy spout but the milk flows better. I gave them the sippys, they drank a bit then turned them upside down and started pouring milk everywhere..rug, couch, floor, each other. So I took them away and they started screaming. Urrrghhh! Should I have bought the real sippy version with the plug? They are 15 months, these cups say 9 months on. What do you do?

I personally don't feel my girls are ready to have no-spill cups. I will only put water in those for the exact reason you described. They just don't have the understanding or attention to realize that they are walking with their cup upside down leaving a trail behind them. I allow them to have cups with straws but ONLY when they are sitting in the highchair otherwise it's all non-spills for us. I'm not worried about the whole "toxic thing" as it was never an issue for many of us growing up or our parents so I figure that my girls will survive as well. Hope that doesn't make me a bad mama.

My guys use only no leak sippies at home, Playtex is the only ones we have found that do not leak. When we are out, like at a restaurant or outside, they drink out of anykind of cup. For some reason at home they assume its okay to pour their drinks out.

We went through that stage with the straw sippies. They would dump water all over the place!! It's annoying! Keep taking them away and telling them they can't have them if they are going to do that. It's a battle!!! :hug99:

IMO those age suggestions on products like cups are just a marketing ploy to get you to think you have to buy 12 different cups as they get older. Even though they are 15 months, if they haven't ever had a sippy, then you probably want to start at the beginning with one with a valve. I don't know of any 9 month olds, or 15 month olds for that mattter, that would be ready for a straw cup that spills easily! Good luck with the bottle to sippy transition!

we LOVE the Nuby sippy cups. They are no-spill but without the plastic piece. The spout is soft, similar to a bottle nipple, but shaped like a sippy spout. The boys love them. We also have the gerber ones with a soft spout with the extra peice, but IMO, the Nuby is the best. They just don't like the hard sippy, and we are actually wanting them to drink from a regular cup, which they both do pretty well. They will only drink regular milk and water out of a real cup with my help, but the Nuby sippies for "smoothies" and juice.
