Freaking out over taking diaper off

I brought out the potties back in July. For a few months the girls were going on it a couple of times per week. So I wanted to start training in the fall, but then Emma broke her wrist. Once the cast came off, I continued to bring out the potty but then they each peed down their legs and got scared. I figured after the holidays I would give it a shot.

So last week I put them in undies. I explained the rules, etc., had rewards lined up. But Lauren FUHREAKED out about it. Sobbing, crying, begging for a diaper, saying she doesn't like it. So then Emma started to cry. I left them in undies and distracted them. We had a few accidents, and they still wouldn't sit on the potties. I tried putting it in the living room, in the bathroom, using a potty ring on the big toilet, asking them where they wanted it, everything!!

So the next day I make it such a non-issue and put undies on them again. More accidents from Emma and nothing from Lauren. I think she was holding it. If anyone so much as brings it up now, she gets panicked and starts to cry.

Has anyone else been through this? Should I just pray that in time they will do it?

    BTDT!!
I'd back off for 2 months.

Michelle, DS Kyle started PT when he was 2 y 9m and was doing great but ds Amelia would cry hysterically at the site of panties. She would sat on the potty a few times but after that she didn't want to sit on the potty either. She had totally dry diapers in the morning so I knew physically, she could do it. Long story short, I stoped offering panties or even asking if she wanted to sit on the potty for about 2 months. Then, I would offer up paniteis about 1 x a month when I was getting them dressed and finally one day (about 6 months later) Amelia said yes when she was about 3y2m. She literally has had 1 accident since then and has never put on diapers again, not even at night. When she was ready she was ready. It was the easiest potty training ever!!
Ds kyle still wears a diaper at night and has accidents a couple times a week during the day. go figure.

 Michelle. I have no advice since my girls love playing in the potty seats (yes IN- not ON, ug). I hope some other people can give you some good advice. Are you using diapers or pull ups during nap and bedtime? Did Lauren pee then?

Oh Michelle, I also wanted to tell you that Amelia would totaly hold it if I put panties on her. Once she held it for over 12 ho urs so I finally gave in and put the diaper back on. Poor thing that diaper was SOAKING about 5 min after I put it on. That's one of the reasons why I just stopped pushing it with her.

I also don't use pull ups. Just cotton undies.

 Sounds like they need to take a break for a little bit. I am sure that Lauren will come around. She is probably holding it right now because she is still freaking out about the last time. BUT eventually she won't want to be wet either. I would try again in a month and see what happens.  to Lolo.

Michelle, I know exactly what you are going through. I think the PP are right, and you should take a break. Ashlyn did that to me a couple months back, the exact same thing. She would scream and cry any time I mentioned panties or potty. After the frustration, I just let it go. Then just a couple weeks ago we brought it back out and it just clicked! She does it all by herself now. She's not afraid either. I also found that leaving her totally naked on bottom worked better than panties. It helps her remember there's nothing on down there, and I think she just likes it better. That's why I bought a ton of summer dresses. We've been wearing those in here this week. She even remembers to pull her dress up now when she goes. Don't worry lady, she'll get it!!

Thank you so much. It definitely helps to hear that I'm not alone in this. I was seriously starting to have anxiety about it, envisioning her in diapers in Kindergarten!!

I would back off and just go back to diapers. I had one false start like that, but then a couple months later, Bea was ready. Ainsley didn't train until a couple months ago completely. They really do have to be ready to do it.

Michelle, Definately not alone in this. Angie totally did this when I tried a few months ago. I was seriously concerned I'd never get her PT'ed, and like you said, once Tony saw her freaking out, he began too. <_< Give her a bit of time and then try again. Do you think you could try doing one at a time? SO much easier on the nerves. (my nerves ;) )

Honestly, wait a while. Put the "big bad mean potties" away and don't bring it up.
