    Hey Ladies and Gents,
I was wondering if anyone has any advice as far as starting solid foods go. Did you guys wait until four months to start solids any advice on how much they should eat?
Are there any shots out their that anyone knows to be unnecessary?
    Thanks Ladies!

We started cereal at 4 months give or take a few days. It was very watery in texture to start. None of my kids liked it right away so they really aren't eating for several weeks - just geting used to eating. Once they got the hang of cereal (aprox. 5 months) we started adding strained veggies and fruits. Once they get started, you can move quickly and introduce lots of new foods. We're at 8 months and ready to try mashed foods and finger foods. Your Ped may have a schedule to hlep guide you.

I don't know of any shots (vaccines) that are recommended but not necessary. Pediatricians usually follow guidelines published by the American Accademy of Pediatrics. In addition to vaccines, Flu shots are recommended at 6 months plus. Did you have a question about a specific shot?

We waited til closer to 6 months to start introducing solids, just as a personal preference. Even once you introduce solids all of their nutrients still come from the formula so don't let up on the amount of formula. I recommend soupy cereal first, and once they get the hang of taking food from a spoon, ie not jutting the tounge out so much that they end up "spitting" everything out, moving on to the stage one veggies. High chairs are necessary IMO and lots of wet cloths/paper towels. Be ready for a mess and don't forget the camera, those sweet potato smeared faces are priceless!!!

The varicella/chickenpox shot is IMHO unnessecary for a healthy child. Chickenpox is inconvienent, not deadly. My guys are too young for food, so I'll look forward to some replies.

No question about a specific shot. It's almost time for their four month appointment where they will be administered more shots. At 3 months they got 5 each and personally I guess they need it but it just seems absured. I'm kind of earing the amount they will be getting this time. I just want to be prepared and if someone out there knows something I should It is easier to get advice from a person than a book ya know?
