So the boys had their 4 month check up today. Everything went well Noah weighted in at 17 lbs even and Jonah at 16 lbs even, we discussed solids and then the shots occurred. They of course screamed and howled bloody murder but then calmed down with the handy use of formula.

One hour later.... when they wake from their nap....

The demons of **** have possessed my boys and they cried for four hours straight (crying is defined as: howling, screaming, bucking, tears, muteless screaming, high pitched yelping, hitting, grabbing and of course kicking). It got to the point where we called the doctors office concerned and received the VM of the on call nurse.

They don't have a temp but we had to carry them for four hours straight - they currently down due to pure exhaustion and are currently sleeping with the heaving sighs from crying so much.

Is this common after their shots?

My babies are always cranky and tired after shots, but not to the point of screaming like you have described. Have you given them Tylenol? :hug99:

The boys didn't have a reaction at their 4 months check up, it was their 6 month check up the demons were unleashed!!!! I feel your pain, mine cried for two days in a row!! Tylenol helped them out a little bit, their little leggies sure do hurt after those shots.

I hope they start to feel better.

I wonder if it's as they get older they can sense pain more.

I got the call back from the doctor... yup you guys were right the answer, 1. its normal and 2. give them:

    Tylenol!!!

Apparently I did not give them enough the first round.... Jonah now is a happy camper bouncing in his bouncer and watching himself in the mirror. Noah on the other hand has been quarantined to the upper bedroom to howl it out with DH. I even joked with the doctor we were going to lace his Tylenol with a little bourbon. (She did not laugh...come on lady... we were at a breaking point! Have a sense of humor!)

At least all is well 1/2 way in house :)

Wow, those are great weights  !

Sorry to hear about their reaction to the shots :hug99: . Definitely give them Tylenol! We went through something similar at their 2 month appt., so we gave it in the Dr. office BEFORE the 4 month shots and then every 4 hours for that whole day and night.

Great weights! My boys did not react like that to their four month shots, but I am sure it is normal. Hope you get those demons exercised soon!

i always hold off on their bottle/sippy for that wonderful time of shots.. they only think they want it but when i lay them flat, ask the nurse if they are ready then put the milk in their mouth for shots and the moments after..

    it really wks.

i push the tylenol as we are heading out the door, and then between the time it takes to get to the dr office and the time it takes to actually get it, it's been about an hour when they get it. i continue to give it for 24 hours, regardless of whether they seem fine (which they have been every time up to now). HTH

    hope it gets better soon!!

You poor thing! I'm glad at least one is starting to settle down now. What wonderful weights!

Your message and the responses you received helped me a lot. My girls have their 4 month visit on Friday so I will definitely give them Tylenol before and after. Hope you have a calm night!
