We found out that we re expecting a twins!

my wife is now approx 11.5 weeks.

We found out that it has 2 SAC but one planena (spell?) also one is normal size and other one is little smaller like 3 days delay but with Dr techy voice talk normal we were not sure if its risk or not...they will not know until next wed cuz we did a screening test before ammino.

Techy person did the ultrasound mentions hearts are good.

Now my wife is nervous wreck...we have a BEAUTFUL girl who is now almost 2 yrs old..

We dont know where to start to do some reaseach... i m afraid she might read online and all bad news that cause her more depressing, feeling guilty etc...

After i did some research and I think it called Monochorionic and diamniotic" but Dr havent confrimed or mention it until they find out the result more...

Just need to venting and kind of need help to talk about it...

    Thanks!

    Jake-
Congratulations! There are a lot of people on this board who have had ultrasounds where the babies measured apart and everything turned out just fine and if the heartbeats looked good, that is VERY good news!! Yes, your wife will go out and find a lot of scary stuff about twin pregnancies. . . . I think every one of us has done the same thing and the nervous wreck side of things doesn't seem to go away until they are here, but you are in for a very exciting ride! I'll say a prayer that the babies continue to grow and thrive and that mom and dad can enjoy the news and try not to worry :)

We went for an ultrasound at 6 weeks because I had some spotting and they said they only saw one baby and a second sac that they said was not viable, they said that there was nothing in it but they wanted me to go back later to make sure it was being resorbed (sp). We went back at 10 weeks and what did we find two babies! At that time they said it looked like they were about 3or4 days apart but as time went on things evened out and when they were born they were just 6oz apart.

So I wouldn't worry just see what the doctor's say, oh and ours were two sac's and two placenta's though

    hope this helped and congrats!!

" i m afraid she might read online and all bad news that cause her more depressing, feeling guilty etc..."

I learned from the birth of my son not to research unnecessary information… not that I recommend digging your head in the sand… but I swore I had everything go wrong that could with my son and worried myself into pre term labor (he turned out to be perfectly healthy… even being born at 35 weeks)… now I have armed myself with the basics (or common need to know risks) and will look up what comes my way (does that make since?)

But each person is different and some people feel more empowered with knowledge… me… it just scared… just thought I would share my experience… good luck with everything

Congratulations, and Welcome to Twin Stuff.

I had an ultrasound at 6wks 1 day, and found out it was twins, nothing were inside the sacs that we could see, and suffering from a miscarriage two months prior I was scared!!! The Sacs were measuring 3-4 days off from one another. I read a lot about The Vanishing Twin Syndrome and it scared the crap out of me. Hubby and I went back for another ultrasound at 11wks 1 day, and saw two healthy babies, measuring two days apart, two healthy heart beats... went to my next ultrasound at 19 weeks, and the smaller baby was measuring a day a head of the bigger baby. So no worries there. We do have two placentas though. I would get more information from your doctor on only having one placenta.

Hi Jake.. congratulations to you and your wife.

Your experience sounds very similar to mine. I found out at 11 weeks that I was expecting mono/Di twins also sharing a placenta (atleast from everything they could see). 1 baby measured 11 weeks 2 days and the other 11 weeks. so 2 days difference. Keeping in mind that measurements can be off a bit I would say that 3 days difference isn't to bad. None of my dr.s nor the tech expressed any concerns about the twins measuring a little different.

Being that your twins are sharing a placenta they will probably be keeping an extra close eye on the babies throughout the entire pregnancy. Google was not my friend..I am a knowledge freak and usually feel so much better just researching the heck out of something.. NOT with twins.. but this board has wonderful people so full of knowledge and experience that I have been able to learn what I need to know without it really scarying me. please stick around and encourage your wife to come here to ask questions. She will get some very much needed support here.

    Hi Jake,

CONGRATULATIONS to you and your wife and your daughter. What an exciting time. We found out at 8 weeks that we were expecting identical twins due to the monochorionic, diamniotic diagnosis from the ultrasound.

The amniotic sac is made up of 2 fine layers (chorion & amnion). Monochorionic = 1 chorion, Diamniotic = 2 separate amions - this means they were conceived from a single sperm and single egg which splits approx 6-10 days after fertilisation. So you will often here your babies refered to as MoDi's and indicates more than likely identical (due to the one egg).

There is so much information out there that scares the bejeezers out of you at first - and you both will search and panic about vanishing twin and TTTS and all the other 'risks' of twin pregnancy- I did, and I am sure I can vouch for all the other lovely ladies on here that they did also.

Just try and remain positive - you will get there. Everyone here is such a wonderful support - I was elated when I found this website.

I look back on the pregnancy so far - and yes, I worried alot - but have made it to 28 weeks and just feel so blessed.

Good luck and look forward to sharing your pregnancy experiences and birthing journey with you both.

It sounds like you are having identical twins. Sometimes with identical twins you get Twin to Twin Transfusion.
Are you guys seeing a perinatologist?? Seeing a specialist is very important when you have multiples. Try
not to stress. Yes, twins are high risk but all may be just fine. Everyone's situation is different. Just make sure
your wife takes it easy. It's a lot different than carrying a single. If you see a specialist they will keep a close
eye on the babies. You will get ultrasounds all the time and will be in good care. Good-luck! It's sweet that
you are looking into this site for her! This is a great site to ask questions, concerns and to vent! :)

Dr did mention that my wife will have to go to Dr for untlrasound every week to keep eyes on twins.

I m praying for us and everyone in here to have a HEALTH babies!!

I will try to keep updating with you all.

I just wanted to add that I found out I was having twins around 11 weeks. At that time they could see two sacs but couldn't decide if there was one or two placentas. At 15 weeks it was clear that I was having a boy and a girl...so they knew the placentas were separate...they just looked really, really close, so it was hard to tell. Also my girl and boy were always off by a few days. I wouldn't worry too much until they get a better look at things in a few weeks.

:sign0016: and congratulations on your little blessings! It is a very scary time when you first find out you are pg, and the to add twins on top of all that, can make it worse! I was about 10 weeks when I found out I was pg with my twins. They were about a week apart from what the ultrasound said. I was a nervous wreck until I went back in 4 weeks later. At that time, they were only about 3 days apart, and the next time I went in they were both right on my due date. My twins do have separate sacs and placentas, but I imagine yours is doing the same. I think you are right about not getting online and reading about all the things that can go wrong. The truth is, it's a highrisk pg, and there are more things that can go wrong, but take the time to wait for the doctor to tell you there is something to worry about, before worrying about it! Enjoy the fact that there are two little ones growing in there and take it one day, week, and month at a time. Look forward to seeing your babies each month, and hearing their little heartbeats soon. I will say a prayer for all of you and hopefully all will be great! Good luck!

The fact that there were two strong heartbeats is really good news. I have monochorionic di amniotic (identical, shared placenta) twins that are now almost 10 months old and I had absolutely NO problems during my pregnancy, both babies were born healthy and perfect. The women on this site have a lot of the infomation your wife may need to put her mind at ease. Congratulations on your babies and :sign0016: to TS.

Glad that went well. With identical twins, the size difference may be nothing, or may be Twin to twin transfusion syndrome. My girls had a big size difference and probably TTTS, but they are doing great now!

    Thanks for the update!

I also have identical twins that were mo/di.

At 16 weeks, they were about a week apart in growth. At 18 weeks, we saw a high risk peri because of the size difference and discovered that the smaller twin had no fluid and abnormal blood flow through her cord. We were diagnosed with TTTS. Size difference can be a sign of TTTS, but it's not the main thing - more importantly, they should keep an eye on the fluid levels for each twin, and also on the cord dopplers. If one twin has little fluid and the other has too much, and the doppers are abnormal, then you may be looking at TTTS. But, to reassure you, size difference if everything else is normal, can be ok - it might just be a placental share issue.

    Good luck!

Its very scary to go thru all this and the fact that you are the one searching for her and trying to keep her calm shows you are going to be a great support to her as well as love her very much and for that I commend you. There are very few guys out there like you. Good luck with the twins and continue the support you will both need it. Its very different to go thru a twin pregnancy then it is a single one that I am finding out the hard way. Congratulations!!!

Sounds like yall have a normal twin pregnancy to me. All the reading I have done has led me to realize that with twins if its not one thing its another. Our twins from weeks 6- 12 were very different in size it is only about the last two weeks that they have become the same size. Baby B was supposed to be a vanishing twin because of his really small odd shaped sac. But prayer fixed that and now we are looking forward to two healthy babies. So it is better to keep your wife in the dark about alot of things, because less worry the better and all the internet will do is tell you the many things that could go wrong.

I am happy to hear things are going a bit better.

At my last u/s on March 7, my twins were measuring 3 weeks apart. I am hoping the little one caught up. I would not worry about it. I am remaining optimistic about my little one and I am pretty sure everything will be alright!

    Jake,

I just wanted to say congratulations. And let you know that I (and many others on this forum) have twins who were in separate sacs with one shared placenta and in most cases they come out fine and grow to be healthly strong and beautiful children.

I hope you two have a smooth pregnancy and delivery!

    Hi Jake,

I would see a specialist. They will be more informative than a regular OB. My girls shared the same sak.
They were monochorionic/dianomic (sp). I had them pre-term, but all is well. Twins over all is a high risk
pregnancy. But all can be just fine. Yes, be careful what you read on line. A lot of too much researching scares
you. I did the same thing and got so upset when I first found out. Support is what she needs right now and to make
her laugh! :)I'm sure she is stressed out about everything....

Well, yesterday we went to high risk Dr preggy. they found that twin B is not doing good, the blood flow and heart is not correct, and is now 2 week behind.
Twin A is doing good. so our Dr want send us to phil, PA (from NY) for some serious test and they re prof and very good at this issue, Dr said.
Dr told us if we leave it alone and Twin B getting worse in future and it can effect Twin A ( oh man..it hit us) so there is a chance to save Twin A is cut cord twin B and remove it (die) but twin A will be fine. that hit us so hard...so we really dont know yet until we go to Phil, PA for special Dr to do some test and everything then we ll see whats our options.

Dr said its not TTTS, its just Twin B has bad sign, heart and blood flow. it happens, dr said.

FUnny that my wife has this bad feel about Twin B all along since shes preggy.

Oh well thats all i can say...

    THanks

Sorry to hear the news wasn't that great. However, with a shared placenta, it could be a couple things. In our case, we had mild TTTS, 2 vessel cord, velamentous cord insertion. Cord ligation was also mentioned to us (our smaller baby also had no fluid). It is heartbreaking, but something I would not consider until I'd exhausted all possible options.

Our growth discordance was always about 10-20% (1-2 weeks behind). Our smaller baby had absent end diastolic flow in the cord for a couple weeks.

I think you should go to the TTTS foundation website and ask on the message boards there for help - even without an official diagnosis, some of the symptoms may be the same.

I went on bedrest and drank 3 high protein boost drinks a day - this to maximize blood flow to the uterus and get both babies as many calories and blood as possible. It helped!

    I'll be thinking of you.

    Jenny
