This morning while I was rubbing Izak's shoulder's I noticed a small lump in his neck. It's movable and seems to be on the small side but he's small so who knows. I called in for an appt immediately today with the on call pedi so I'm hoping for an answer today as to what it is. Of course, being the IE freak I am, googled it and am now freaking out. Please say a prayer for my little guy...I'm hoping and praying it's nothing. Thanks!

 Stay away from google. No one ever writes about "nothing is wrong."

Tyler had a lump in his back at about 11 months old. It didnt go away and the Pediatric Surgeon was "concerned." Concerned enough to take it off the next day-his 1st birthday. Needless to say, I was a mess. It turned out to be an internal hemangioma and nothing to worry about.

it could just be an enlarged lymph node if he has a slight infection

ITA; lymph nodes are all over and they often feel mobile and rubbery. I hope the ped can see you ASAP and give you some reassurance. In the meantime, STAY AWAY FROM DR. GOOGLE!!

As PP said, maybe it's a lymph node? When DS was a few months old I remember there being a small lump on his neck. We called the pedi. and he said it sounded like a lymph node and didn't even have us come in. He checked it at our next visit and it was indeed a lymph node. Try not to worry! (That even happened to me one time as an adult. I was totally freaked out by this lump on my neck and the doctor said it was a normal sized lymph node. I guess I just happened to notice it one day).

My son also had a lump in his neck and he still does but his was in his muscle and they told me it was from his torticolis. We massaged it a lot and it got smaller but it is still there. Good luck in your appointment I am sure all will be well.

I was thinking possible lymph node too. There are many around the neck or under arms.

Either way, you'll feel better once you get it checked out. (Until then, try to stay away from the internet. :) )

I know, I know ... IE is off limits except for TS!! I don't think it's in a lymph node as it's more towards the back, base of the neck area; behind the ear in proximity but not directly. I can "move" it around so I don't think it's attached to anything. Ya know, it's just that it's him and not me. If it were me, I don't think I'd be as freaked out about it. It's just a whole nother ball game when it's your child. They are my heart

We also found a lump in our DS's neck. We took him in and it was an enlarged lymph node. I was concerned b/c it didn't seem to be going away after time so I took him back in again. They told me that it may get enlarged everytime he gets sick and that a lot of times a little scar tissue can build up around it so don't be surprised if it never fully went away. They also told me not to mess with it too much b/c playing with it, rubbing it, etc could make it more inflamed causing more scar tissue. I hope it's nothing and they're able to fit you in. I know how worrisome that can be.

I found the same thing on DDs neck and called the pedi for an appointment the next day. She had an ear infection with very minor symptoms that I attributed to teething, and the lump was a swollen lymph node.

 for the worry! Do let us know what happens. Does it seem to bother him? Does it hurt him when you touch it? And I agree...try not to mess with it.

You said that they're getting over a cold in your status the other day right? I'm totally going to go with the lymph node too. There are lots of them and they're in all sorts of areas, and they can get swollen when sick.

And breath .... It's a lymph node!! :clapping: You girls were right and I'm sooo glad. So glad to get that lesson in human anatomy and that I'm not the only one who's freaked out over a "good" thing! His body is just reacting to his sickness that he's going through and doing what it's supposed to do!! Thanks everyone for your thoughts!!!!

What a relief! :woohoo: I'm glad it was just a lymph node. It never hurts to call the ped if you're not sure of something; either you'll get reassurance or you'll get whatever it is taken care of. My guys are prone to enlarged lymph nodes in the back of their heads, which is a bit scary if you're not used to it. I've been to the ped with them enough times that I now know what they are and am not as freaked out by them.

Thanks for the update; I'm sure you'll enjoy a relaxing evening now that you don't have to worry! :D

My niece had this exact thing happen not too long ago. She had had several ear infections and that caused it. However, I would definitely get it checked out. Hope everything is OK!

Who needs a pedi when you have TS; I'm joking. I'm glad it was nothing serious. I've gotten those lumps myself, which is why it's always my first guess, but it's definitely scary when you first encounter it.

That great to know! I also felt exactly what you described on my son's neck a few weeks back but the next day I couldn't find it so I just left it. I'm guessing that's what it was for my guy as well.

Glad to hear it! That is what I expected it most likely was. I had that happen to me once.

I am not a doctor, but FYI they have told me if it is rubbery and can be moved around it is not cancer (it doesn't mean it can't be something else like a fatty deposit, etc., but not cancer).

FYI, there are SO many lymph nodes in the neck, it's crazy! Here is a pic I found of them all :0
