    Hi all!
I'm new here and have a question. I'm giving my twins breast milk and formula. When I make a bottle of formula from the refrigerator
and heat it up and they don't eat the entire bottle, can I save that formula for the next feeding?
If so, can I heat it up again a second time?
If I can, I assume that is it, once it is reheated a second time, throw it out?

Can I save all the leftover formula in each bottle throughout the day and make one last full bottle with it at night?

    Thanks!
P.S. Anyone trying the new Similac formula with the prebiotics? We are using Sensitive but would like to gradually change to the new Similac Advance.

Once the bottle goes in their mouth, you aren't supposed to reuse it. I don't know the technicalities other than the saliva can get back in the formula and grow bacteria. There have been occassions I have heated up a bottle under the tap, did not use it and put it back in the fridge. I assume that's ok, but haven't ever asked the pedi to find out for sure.

I agree with the PP...once they suck from the bottle you have to use it within the hour or throw it out.

Guess I'm in the minority! If my girls don't take all of their bottle and it's within the hour I put it in the fridge to use at the next feeding. If they don't eat it all at the next feeding I throw it out. But I always re-use it once, always have and my babies are fine.

I agree with Aimee. I will definitely reuse the formula once. I know, I know. I clearly says not to do so on the can. Formula is like liquid gold around our house, and I hate to see it go to waste. If they don't drink it the second time around, down the drain it goes. I did this with my first born and am also doing it with my twin boys. Everyone seems happy and healthy, so I'm stickin' to it!

    Good luck!!!

I don't reuse once it's been in their mouth; but I'm completely paranoid about food safety, both for myself and for them.

Yeah-ditto on the liquid gold. We reuse it once and then it's down the drain. I can't even begin to fathom the amount of $$ that would have been wasted if we dumped after the first time! EEK! They are much better now at finishing their bottles, but they still leave some to add to the next feeding. And-they've been totally fine the whole time too!

I always saved for one more feeding and then dumped it if it wasn't finished. I just made sure and put it back in the fridge right after the first feeding.

I always dump it because if they don't eat all their bottle the have to wait for the next feeding and 3 hours seems to much to keep it. If I keep re offering it it would throw off their schedules. Doing it this way they have never left more than 2 oz but usually finish it.

Yep, me too. I can't imagine throwing away a bottle just bc they put their mouth on it.

I now put sippie cups in the refrigerator too for later. Of course I'm the mom who picks the pacifier off the floor, checks for hairs and bugs and then pops it back in their mouth. Germs are good. They help build immunity.

we were told to use freshly made formula within an hour. Formula that we made and refrigerated we were told to use within an hour of heating and then throw it out, not to put it back and reheat later. I don't know why they say not to use it a second time or not to go over an hour having it out but we've just always done that. Granted sometimes we go a bit over an hour but I think it's ok. Our babies were pretty premature (29 weeks) so were very cautious and followed all directions!
