I started by mixing an ounce or two less formula and adding milk in. Every 3-5 days I'd add more milk, less formula. Over about 2 weeks I gradually got it down to milk only and we never had any problems :)

I did start both my kids on lactaid milk, mostly because my son had reflux and it worked better for him than regular milk, so I did it with my dd after she was born too. I probably could have gone straight to regular whole milk with her tho. :)

I think you can either start mixing the formula with milk, or you can just make the switch cold turkey. It just depends on what you are comfortable with.

We switched milk for formula one feeding every few days. I gave them milk (still do) at b-fast, lunch and dinner. They get water for their snack. They transitioned quickly with no problems :).

People have had success going cold turkey or mixing formula with milk at first. We did a milk and formula (1/2 and 1/2) mix and then would reduce the formula by a 1/2 ounce each day until they were on whole milk only. They've had no problem with it. Good luck in whatever you decide!

When I got down to the last 2 cans of formula, I started mixing it 1/2 formula and half milk. Once the formula was all gone we went to just straight milk and it worked great! GL!

I did a few days of 1/2 formula, 1/2 milk, and once I knew they were tolerating it ok, I switched them to all milk.

We did the gradual approach as well using cold milk. After a couple of weeks, they were drinking milk right out of the refrigerator and didn't even notice the change. One thing to watch out for though is you don't want to give them as much milk as they have been having formula because milk is constipating. 16 ounces is usually the recommended daily amount.

My girls are on 6 oz. bottles and at 11 1/2 mo. we are doing this:

5 oz. formula/1 oz. milk for 2-3 days then
4 oz. " /2 oz. milk for 2-3 days then
    3 /3
    2 /4
    1 /5

    ALL MILK!

    GL!

Mine are close to the 1 year mark as well and we are going to switch cold turkey. I have one EBF baby and the other is already done with bottles and is currently drinking EBM/formula out of a sippy cup. When she turns 1 we're going straight to milk and I think she will be thrilled! I dont thnk she likes formula after having recieved EBM for so long and who could blame her- formula smells awful, Im just not into pumping regularly anymore. Im hoping she will think its a tasty drink just like her juice or water.

I did this with the twins and plan on doing it with Livi....at about 11.5 months

    Week 1 - 1/4 milk and 3/4 formula
    Week 2 - 1/2 milk and 1/2 formula
    Week 3 - 3/4 milk and 1/4 formula
    Week 4 - ALL milk

I got the OK from the pedi to start switching the twins at 11.5 months, so I will do the same with Livi in a few weeks!

We are almost there too & this is good to know. My LO's always seem to get constipated, so now I know to not overdose them on milk! Thank you!
