My babies have had problems with Reflux and we have been trying everything to help them. We went monday to a Ped Gi and he had said that we may want to try switching to alimentum. Wednesday we made the switch and it seems they may be spitting up a little less and are having less reflux episodes and are able to work through them a little better. But now my DS does not seem to want to finish his bottles. He arches his neck and turns his head left to right quickly like he is looking for food but he won't drink it. He typically drinks 110mls and for the past couple days he rarley finished his bottles and will leave 20 to 40 mls. When I am done trying to feed him he usually seems content and he sleeps untill his sister wakes him up for the next feeding. Could he just not like the alimentum. Is he reflux just getting worst? I am so confused. They are premmies and I want to make sure he keeps eating and gaining weight. What do you think?

My son did the same thing with Alimentum. He is normally BF'ed so we could tell for sure it was the taste. He just did not like it, but did fine with expressed breast milk. Through trial & error we discovered he actually will only take the RTF Alimentum. He viciously refuses the powder and will actually hunger strike rather than take the powdered version of Alimentum.

Hope it helps to at least know you're not alone. Maybe you might have better luck with Nutramigen, the Enfamil equivalent-- an elemental, hypo-allergenic formula.

Good luck-- so sorry to hear you're struggling with reflux-- it's so tough!!

I am going to agree with this. Sometimes they just don't like the formula. My niece was on Alimentum and it did a number on her stomach too. Basically she can to switch to Neocate, my oldest son was on it too.

If it still is a problem I would see my pedi again about it. It can be related to the reflux still. :hug99:

We were on Alimentum but ended up switching to Nutramigen. It was such a difference after we switched.

What were they on before Alimentum? Did you go straight from regular formula to Alimentum or did you try soy first?

My youngest was diagnosed with silent reflux and he was on Axid. Once we switched to soy, he did so much better (we actually took him off of Axid). He used to scream during feedings and seem hungry but didn't want to eat - come to find out, the formula was making them gassy and bloated. They are doing a million times better on soy.

I almost EBF, but whenever DD gets formula it has to be the hypoallergenic stuff. She likes Nutramigen fine, but then we tried Alimentum (got a free sample) and she HATED it! When I told the GI about it, he was surprised - "I thought they were both equally disgusting!" But apparently to my DD's discerning palate Alimentum is way more disgusting than Nutramigen...

Anyway, might be worth trying Nutramigen instead. Good luck! Hope you can find something he'll eat.

My boys disliked Alimentum. I couldn't stand the smell. I had to use the "ready to feed" type just because the poweder form smelled so bad I would get ill. But the boys had a harder time switching from Alimentum to Soy then they did going from milk based to alimentum. Good luck and I hope you figure out what works for your kiddos soon. It is so hard.
