Formula recommendations--generic okay?

    Hi all

I exclusively BF my first and am mostly pumping for the twins. Ideally we'll get to only BF, but we are not there yet and they are already nine weeks (arrived at 34w). I need to occassionally supplement with formula. I've been using Enfamil 22 calorie stuff, our pedi told us we can move to "regular" formula now. I was thinking of going with Sam's Club brand, but we got some Similac samples from the doc. How hard is switching formula brands on their systems and what brand to you recommend?

    Thanks

We didn't have any issues switching from Enfamil to Target brand. The consistency is a little different, but by law generics have to be the same (almost to the letter) as the brand name. I've heard good things about the Sam's Club formula, but we've never tried it.

PP is right, all formula has to meet the same standards whether it's name brand or generic. I used the Kroger version of Gentlease for the boys, they did better on that than the name brands. :pardon:

I am sure the generic is fine. However, I stayed with what the boys were using. There was no sense in upsetting the apple cart. Noah used Enfamil Gentle Ease and Jacob Similac Advance with Iron. Trust me we are glad we are almost at the end of the formula stage.

I highly, highly recommend Nestle Good Start. A LC referred us to it when we had to supplement. THere's no generic, but it's cheaper than most namebrands. It doesn't stain clothes. And I saw no bad side effects on their tummies.

I use the Sams club and the Walmart's Parent Choice formula. I have not had any problems with either of them. They went between the free samples of enfamil I had and the generics..

We use the Cosco brand "Kirkland" we have had no problems and its about half the price of other formula.

I stopped pumping at 6 months, prior to that they were getting EBM and Neosure (Similac's 22 cal formula). I switched them over to the Costco/Kirkland brand at that point, and they did fine. They actually did better on it than the Neosure.

Per the pedi's recommendation, I did still mix the regular formula to a higher calorie.

We eventually switched to generic, and they did fine with it.

We use the Sam's Club (Member's Mark) brand...the boys do great and it costs about half the name brand. The nutrients are the exact same as Enfamil.

We just switched to Parent's Choice (Walmart) and they seem to be doing fine on it. What a difference in price too...half as much as Enfamil!
