We were using the Similac NeoSure for our boy/girl twins who were born at 34w2d but at their 2 month check up this morning the dr said that their weight gain was great so we can take them off of it. So, we went and got some Similac Advanced and tried that and they did well so far. They do not have any problems with gassiness or spitting up but I was wondering if any of you have any recommendations for formula that you use for your little ones.

We also were using the RTF with the NeoSure but that type is more expensive than the powdered. I usually make up their bottles before bed that way I can just grab and go in the middle of the night. Can I do that with the powdered formula? I've never used powdered formula before so I'm not sure.

    Thanks ladies!

You can do that with powdered formula it just has to be in the fridge.

I use enfamil gentle ease and Nutramagen

Our guys are on Alimentum (ouch!) but we're trying to wean one of them off of it... A lot of folks have a hard time w/ Advance, but if your kids are ok w/ it- I say stick with what works! And yes, you can make up a whole lot of the powdered kind, just keep in in the fridge and use it w/in 24 hours.

Our kids get Target-brand formula. The doctors in the NICU specifically recommended it, and they have done great on it.

Enfamil AR - one has mild reflux (has gotten much better now) and the other doesn't but we didn't want to buy two different kinds of formula. We still add rice cereal to it to thicken as they won't eat unless its the consistancy of gravy :rotflmbo:

Nestle Good Start. It worked wonders for my colicky babies. It has 'comfort proteins", that are easier to digest. Use with Dr. Brown's bottles and you can't go wrong. My twins were also on Neo Sure and the colic (gas) was AWFUL. and painful. I took them off of it at 7-8 weeks

I used all of our free formulas and that lasted about 6 months. Then we switched to the Kirtland (Costco) brand. Every time I switched formulas I did it gradually by replacing one oz of old formula with one oz of new formula every day. The girls never noticed.

Powdered formula is very convenient, in my opinion. You can put water into some bottles, leave them at room temp, and then just add the powder whenever you need a bottle. Also, if you're a person who is concerned about BPA (the toxin that can potentially get into milk from clear, hard plastic, such as the stuff they use to line cans and for Avent bottles), then you can feel better that much, much less BPA gets into powdered formula than the liquid concentrate or ready to feed.

We used Enfamil A+ for the most part when our kids were little but at 7 months we switched to a generic (grocery store brand) with no problems whatsoever.

    Good luck!

Neither of my babies could tolerate Advance. Ariana was switched to Alimentum and stayed on it until we weaned her off a couple of weeks ago to Nestle Good start. Jesse went on Isomil, then Alimentum, then Nutramagen, then back to Isomil. He's doing great on Isomil now.

DD started with Enfamil Lipil, then Enfamil Soy, now Enfamil AR(added rice). I just make two days worth of formula at one time(one big pitcher full) and put them in the bottles and put in the refrigerator. So easy just to go grab a bottle out of the refrigerator (she also drinks hers cold). At night I used to use my bottle cooler that I use when I go out so I would not have to run to the refrigerator in the middle of the night.

We have had really great success w/ Similac powder (both the soy and regular), which they've been on since birth as I was unfortunately unable to nurse. We switched Max to the regular about 6 weeks ago, but kept Ava on the soy as she still seems to have a little lactose intolerance. At bedtime, they both get soy because I swear it seems like the regular gets way more air bubbles in it...

We get ours at Costco, as they have the great big cans and we haven't found them cheaper anywhere else...

We have been on the Similac Advance since they were born. Neither have had any trouble with it. I always make a pitcher of formula, once a day. Then I just pour out the bottles and warm them when it's feeding time. I tried the room temperature water, and mixing at bottle time, but I guess I didn't give it enough time to mix, cause the nipples would get clogged a lot. So that's what worked best for me. But we tried a bunch of different things before getting our system down flat. Just be prepared that the powder formula looks different than the RTF. The RTF looks creamier in texture and in color. The powder when mixed looks more white. I wasn't prepared for that at first, so I thought I was doing it wrong. But with a 24lb and 18lb babies at 9 months, everyone seems to be eating fine.

Sam's brand or wal-mart parent's choice brand. Mine didn't care much for Similac in the beginning and preferred Enfamil. I find that the generic brands appear more like Enfamil but I may be totally off base with that.
