Okay, I've posted a few times about the feeding issue. Now I have a new one. I switched my babies formula four days ago to Isomil because of the gassyness and spit up. Well my ds is doing wonderful. My daughter...well, last night she SCREAMED her head off everytime I fed her a bottle. Her 11 pm, 3 am, 7 am and 11 am bottles she screamed during and after the feeding. Her arms flailing all over the place. Her tummy was SO hard and she was passing major gas. But every time she passed gas you would think it would make her feel better and stop crying but no it made it worse. So this morning I called my hospitals nurse line and they think I should bring her in within 24 hours. I'm worried...what do you guys think? Do you think she could be allergic to milk? Her stools are mushy and stringy (kinda mucousy I think)...then again so are my sons but he isn't having any issues ...yet.

Could be reflux...that causes alot of screaming during eating. I would take her to the Ped and discuss with him/her. One of mine has a suspected milk allergy and he is on the "liquid gold" Alimentum. Seems to work for him. He had some blood in his stool which was a factor. Have you seen any tinge of blood in the stool with the mucous??

No blood that I can see. Does the baby have to have blood in the stool to suspect allergy?

I dont think there can only be one way a milk allergy can manifest itself. But I dont know for sure. But FWIW they can have microscopic blood that you cant see that can only be seen on a specific stool test. It was done for me at the GI Dr. since we were having reflux issues. I never saw any blood in his stool. So we are not 100% that he has a milk allergy because there can be some false positives but we are treating him as so. So, special formula and no milk or soy products for the first year. I was told by the GI that up to about 30-40% of babies with a true milk allergy can also be allergic to soy.

Sounds exactly like reflux, which generally gets better with time but it could take months, so some meds can give your poor little baby some relief in the short term. I know how hard this is - I'm thinking of you.

This same thing happened to my DD. I changed her from Lipil to gentlease (sp?) because of gas. Well everytime i gave her a bottle she would just scream.. So i changed her back.. I would rather deal with the gassy cries than the cries all the time!

Well here we are again. She is yet again SCEAMING in the night for every feeding. During the day it didn't seem so bad. She had one bottle that she didn't even fuss with. Now that it's 1:30 am she is miserable. I don't think it's reflux because she's not throwing up or spitting up. I don't know if it's a milk allergy because she doesn't have blood in her stools. I don't know how to help her. She was hungry and couldn't even finish the whole thing because she is exhausting herself with her crying. She can't even sit still to drink it. She's kicking and arms are flying everywhere. Last bottle she drank 2 oz (she is now drinking about 3 to 4) so she was hungry sooner. This bottle she only drank 1.5. This means I'll be up every 2-3 hours while she screams to get a little bit down her. What am I going to do? What if my doctor doesn't know?

My boys both had bad reflux (they were on meds) but neither of them spit up. Throwing/spitting up does not have to be a sign. My sons sign would be that they were hungry but would not drink due to the pain. They arched their back and cried during bottles. I cant remember if you said you called the Dr. yet. I would do that. Let us know how it goes.

As per Nicole, they dont have to spit up to have reflux. One of mine did and one of mine did not. Please call the Ped and see if you can get some help.
