formula intake

The girls are 5.5mos. Does anyone know how many ounces of formula they're supposed to be drinking per day? I forgot to ask last time I was at the pedi. The girls take between 6-8oz per bottle 4-5 times per day. We working on adding in a solids dinner but taking it really slow.

 

It sounds like they are getting enough formula, i can't exactly remember but I seem to recall 24-32oz a really good amount.

 

I think our pedi said 24-32oz/day. But my kids never drank 32oz lol. But they do now?!!they drink ton of milk and hate their baby food now.they used to eat baby food like crazy. So I don't mind they drink milk.

It sounds like your dds are good drinkers. So congrats! You are lucky. We always have hard time at feeding. They are difficult to feed. I guess its one of the disadvantges of being born premature.

 

I was actually thinking they're gettting too much per day. They don't always take 8oz per bottle. I'm sure with the start of solids they'll cut back some too. I agree I'd rather have a baby drinking too much than not enough. I was always very thankful that I had babies who drank/ate without problem. I can't imagine the stress for the parent when they have to deal with feeding problems. I found that I have to prop Maddie's bottle a lot. I hate doing it but if I feed her she won't eat. She was to snuggle and play (no matter how much of snuggle play time she had prior) and won't eat.

 

I was told 24-32 is a good amount and they shouldn't be getting more than 40 in 24 hour period. My girls are 5 months.

They take 5-6 oz 6 times in 24 hours with occasional 8 oz bottle if they are super hungry.

 

Thats sounds about right. My girls are just a bit older than yours and they are taking 6oz. bottles 4x/day.

I think it goes according to their weight. Mine always take a little less I think, but are gaining awesome (1/2 lb per week) Mine are 5 month (3 adjusted) they weigh about 16 lbs probably. My DD take about 25 oz and my DS about 30 oz.

 

Mine are the same age and they take 6 oz bottles about 4 times/day. Every now and then they take 5 bottles. They both weigh 15lb 15oz as of Tuesday. Their pedi says this is about perfect! Anywhere from 24-34 ounces they say is fine! Sounds like you're right on.
