I have these bottles of Similac ready made formula that I got in the mail (I think I filled something out at the hospital because I had twins). I started using it and after using it and storing it in the fridge, it looks kinda brown. Is this normal (and yes I did check the expiration)? Does anyone else have any experience with this? I also noticed this with the little 2 ounce ready made bottles that they gave us at the hospital. Any input would be appreciated.

I've noticed that ready made formula is tan-ish. I always figured it was like the difference between powdered milk and canned milk. Canned milk turns tan because the lactose and other milk sugars caramelize from the high heat of the canning process but powdered milk stays white because it's freeze dried.

I did notice when I have used the ready made in the cans of Similac in the past that it did seem very brown as compared to the powder formula I made. I compared the two one time and there was such a difference in color I ended up throwing out the ready made as it made me uneasy even though I knew it was fine. So I do agree ready made is very brown in color.

We received a boatload of little bottles of ready-made Enfacare in the mail (from Santa Claus???), and it definitely had a tan-ish look.

I got 2 cases of Enfacare when we arrived home from the hospital. I used it (because it is so expensive to buy!) but it definitely was more tan looking than the powdered stuff. Also, I think it smells stronger (and twice as bad when it comes back up the second time!)

I too noticed that it smells different too. I hope it is okay.

I remember the few sample bottles of Similac that I supplimented with in the hopital were kind of a grayish tan color.

I emailed Similac and a few other formula manufacturers to see what they say about the color/smell difference. :)
