My little miss Rose has been teething [hard core] for the past week. Her formula intake has gone from 32-40 oz/day to about 20-25 oz/day. We started on sippy cups about 3 wks ago and I've been only putting water in it. Because Rose's pee diapers are much fewer than her sissy's [and poops have been dryer] I've been trying to give her more sips of water during the day.

Last night she was reaching for her sippy so I grabbed it for her and tipped it back to give her a 'sip' [they don't really know how to tip them back just yet]. She then took it from me, grabed it with both hands and 'gulped' the rest of the water down like she was So thirsty [or hungry]. At that point I was thinking, well gee.. if she would just finish her bottles of formula like that, we wouldn't have a pee/poop/dehydration problem. I then thought about what people had said about being sure to Not put formula in sippies - I could not remember the details and/or why not to. Was hoping you ladies could clear up my memory :)

Hmmm, I've never heard not to do this. I put formula in sippy cups at 10 months bc they were able to drink really well from them at that age. As a matter of fact, we dropped bottles altogether at that age and went 100% to sippy cups.

I put formula in sippies at their meals when they were low on their intake for the day. I don't see anything wrong at all with it. Then you can transition them from formula to milk still using the sippy.

Really..? well, if it won't give them bad habits as they get older I might give it a try. For some reason I was under the impression that I shouldn't give them formula in sippies so they won't associate formula them instead of bottles... or was it something different?

I read that it was good to start them formula or bm in the sippies. I was told it was better to put formula or milk in them than juice, but that a good way to get them to learn to drink from them is to put something they like with flavor in them.

I never heard it was wrong to put formula in them, maybe other than the waste.

Same here. If they will drink formula out of the sippies, then I would say go for it!

I give formula to mine in sippies but only for their mid-morning snack. I dont think there´s anything wrong with it. I need to find some sippies that hold 10oz though! I´d make the switch asap before they get too attached to the bottle. I need to start thinking about doing this myself!

That makes sense :) I tried a little formula in the sippy.. they gave me a 'yucky face' look when it wasn't water, lol. AND they tip it upside down and put their mouths on the bottom, or just fling them everywhere - what a mess! Guess we'll just have to keep practicing.

Good point, I wouldn't want them to become attached to the bottle!

My pedi said to put formula in their sippies so they get used to having milk in them. He actually said to use formula more than water as he does not recommend juice until they are a year old.
