I was just wondering what everyone uses formula wise for their gassy and fussy babies? My twins are 10 weeks old and my one is so incredibly gassy and fussy at night. She spits up too hours after eating and its sour smelling, so maybe a touch of reflux too? Please any advice on formula would be great, she is on soy right now, not because of intolerance but I thought it would be eeasier on her stomach.

Probably some reflux in their...they say that it takes about 6 months of their esophogus (sorry for the spelling) to fully develop.

I hate 2 reflux babies...one worse than the other. They are both on soy and on Prevacid...they still spit up and my daughter usually screams as it's coming back up. It's hard. We are going to a GI specialist on the 25th because she is suffering enough.

Have you tried adding some rice cereal to their bottles to help them keep it down? That can help some babies some. Watch for constipation issues with Soy and Rice...geesh, can't see to catch a break anywhere.

    Good luck.

I would have her evaluated for reflux...but my kids were gassy and fussy when they were newborns and we switched them Similac Sensitive with gas drops in every bottle. Helped a lot with the gas and fussiness but my two did not have reflux, so you might want to talk to your pedi about it before switching anything.
    Good luck!

my doc recommended soy formula first before trying the really expensive stuff and it worked!! My daughter got gas drops before bed every night till she was 18 mos old because of the horrible painful gas pains she'd get but both my kids were different babies within days of trying soy!

I had one that was gassy/fussy. We tried soy but he got VERY constipated (which made matters worse). Then he was on Enfamil Gentlease and was good, but not great. Then went went with the big guns, Nutramagin. He had no improvement so we went back to the Gentlease and he stayed on that until he turned one.

Gas drops did not do much for him. What I found that was helpful was Gripe Water. I bought it at Walgreens for about $10 a bottle and I would give it to him with his formula.

Then all of a sudden around 4 months he just grew out of it. I think it just took that long for his digestive system to mature.

Another thing I found very interesting was that he could only tolerate the name brand. On numerous occasions we tried the Target & Walmart brands and each time he became constipated.

Another piece of advice their pedi gave us was after every feeding, try to keep them upright (in a boucy, swing, boppy...anything) for at least 30 minutes before you put them back to bed.

We were on soy. It did make them a little constipated, but they worked throught it and cried less than when they were on reg. formula. We also tried the more expensive form, but really noticed no significant difference. We did take a dose of Zantac morning and night. I will say, the amount of spit-up never changed. Instead, they jut seem less bothered by it.

We are on Enfamil Lactose Free and it worked wonders for both of my babies. We were also on Zantac and Prevacid for reflux till about 5 months old. We saw a drastic improvement in babies behaviour as soon as we switched formulas.

    Good luck!

No reflux issues here, but our girls are on Enfamil Gentlease for gas and fussiness...We also used little tummies gas drops when needed...seemed to ease the gas when they started the formula at 4 weeks(they were on enfamil premium lipil prior) No real issues anymore with the gas...

My DD was really gassy the first couple months and DS has reflux. I tried soy and they HATED it! It smells awful and is a funny consistency. I had access to Similac samples so I tried a few and they did well on Similac Sensitive. DD also did very well on Good Start. I think it was the whey protein which was easier to digest than casein and the probiotics helped her constipation. Also, if you are not on WIC and are trying to cut costs, the store brands are essentially the same thing and no store brand is better than another. In fact, every generic brand is made by the same manufacturer and then each store puts their own labels on it. There is one that is just like Gentlease, which is about the same as Good Start.

We also used Gripe water which was wonderful. It works the same as if you sipped a ginger ale when you have a stomachache. I thought mylicon did nothing.

Ours are VERY Gassy and sometimes have some constipation issues. They ar eon Enfamil 22 cal, but we give them mylacon with each bottle and 1oz of suger free prune juice a day and it keeps it under control. They sleep for about 5 1/2-6 hours a night, so it takes a while for thier next feeding with the mylacon to get the farts under control.
