I just started giving my daughter with reflux Axid on saturday. It's Tuesday morning and I can't tell if it's making a difference. Maybe it's too soon after just 3 days.

Her symptoms are/were vommiting a lot after two to three feedings each day. Spitting up excessively after each feeding. Over eating almost every feeding. Crazy, ravenous, panicked eating between the hours of 7pm-midnight. She can't seem to get enough and breathes really heavy and moves her head back and forth really fast until she gets on the breast...then overeats - then pukes. I try not to let her overeat but I just can't tell sometimes if she is eating for comfort or if she really is hungry since she is so desperate to be at the breast. She's never comfortable during any feed. She's not crying but she is kicking her legs, arching her back, breathing fast and heavy. Her sister relaxes and melts into me and eats...so it's a stark contrast. The daughter with reflux is a very content and sweet baby and doesn't even cry very much when she is hungry or tired..she's got an easy going disposition so I don't think she is crying even though she is in pain. :(

Anyway, I know the medicine may not help with the puking but I was hoping it would help with the rest of it. Does any of this sound familiar? Did the meds help? How long did it take?

I really starting seeing the meds working for my boys after about 5-7 days and then it just got better. Hang in there. Reflux is so hard on everyone!! :love0028:

I would give at least a week to 10 days, and if you aren't seeing any changes, I would give the ped a call. It does sound like reflux is the culprit. :hug99:

Same here, once we found the right medicine, it took about a week to see a change. Sadly, the medicine doesn't help with the amount of puke and/or spit up, but for us, it took away the pain, back arching, flailing about, refusing to eat, etc. We never had overeating problems so I don't know how medicine works for that. Good luck! As one of the previous posters said, if you don't see some relief in a week to 10 days, talk to your doctor because you might need a different medicine. We went through Zantac and Prevacid for one of my daughters and finally ended up with Prilosec, which worked after about six days.

I agree with pp.. it took about a week to see improvement. We did other things to help while waiting for it to kick in like keeping them upright for about 45 minutes after eating and propping the pnp so their heads were elevated. GL and I hope your kiddos feel better soon. -Leighann

Prevacid took a little less than 2 weeks for us, at least 1 1/2. My GI specialist warned me about that.

The 1st time we went on Prevacid it only took a day or two to see a noticeable difference. But, we had to stop/restart once and it took a good 10 days to see the same type of improvement.

    Good Luck!

I read somewhere that it takes time for the damage done to the esophogus to heal once on meds. Does that sound right? Anyway, it took about 10 days for us, too.

We did Zantac with DS and older DD. I'm pretty sure it took about a week to make a difference. The pedi gave me a dosage range and we had to play with it a little to get it right. (Seems like it was .5 to .8mls; don't know the mg's of Zantac we were on.) But once we got up to about .7 I started seeing a big difference. I hope you see some relief soon.

google the marci website and learn about Zegerid. It's a great med and worked wonders for my kids.

It took almost 2 wks for Prevacid to work (the 3rd med we tried). I was so frustrated when I didn't see results AT ALL for the first weeks or so, but at 2 weeks we really turned a corner, and my son is still doing great (except for some recent night time reflux issues, possibly related to teething). He's been on it about 2.5 months.

Your story sounds just like mine.... I hope she gets relief soon!!
