When did you really start putting barrettes and clips and things in their hair? We have some non-slip bows that I use for pictures or when we first arrive places (and then it comes right out) but I have been afraid (and she probably would not let me) to really do anything else with her hair. But she has enough hair to actually do something with it and it could look really cute for when we go out. I am just nervous that she will take out what I put in it and put it in her mouth. And I don't want to risk her choking on it. What do you guys think?

Both of my girls have a ton of hair. We started putting barettes in their hair when they were about 6 months old. But by the time they were about a year old they would take them out as soon as we put them in, so we stopped. We never had a problem with them putting them in their mouths though. Now, at almost 2 years old, we've started puting barettes in their hair again, but we usually stick to ponytails because those are harder to pull out!

I started occasionally around 3 months and then all the time around 4 months on. I don't keep them in the girls' hair when we're in the car because they would eat them. I take them out and put them back in when we arrive wherever we're going. I think because I did it so early that my girls are very used to it. They hardly ever touch them now.

I have probably 10 sets of bows from Bows2Cute and LOVE them. She lines the bows with felt so they stay put very well.

Lately we put something in their hair most days, because it is pretty wild and curly. But that's not been until recently, as they'd pull it out right away when they were younger. So I'd only do it for pics, etc.

I've been putting stuff in her hair since about 6 months. I do it every time we go out. She doesn't have bangs and, while the front is pretty well trained to go to the side, I don't want it in her face. But, I don't do just barrettes. We have to put a little "no snag" rubber band in first to hold the hair tight. Then I can put a barrette or bow in. The rubber band keeps her from pulling it all out and discourages her tugging at the bows since it hurts to pull at it. They sell the rubber bands in the kid section of the hair accessory aisle at most stores (Walmart, Target, grocery stores...).

I just started in the last few months. They would take it out if I put one in when they were younger. Now, they like to wear 'pretty girl hairbows' and ask for them. I am surprised when they keep them in all day.

I didn't put stuff in their hair until I had to. :) I wasn't too into the cuteness factor and it was really more of a method of keeping it out of their eyes for me. I started little ponytails and barrettes at about 17 months old.

I started putting ponytails in Emilie's hair at 17 months, that is when it started to get too long and go in her eyes. She would take them out many times after I put them in. Now she does not like her hair in her eyes and if it is in her eyes she pushes it away and says "eyes" and now she will leave them in. But she didn't start to leave them in until around 20 months. Honestly, she doesn't put things in her mouth, so I've never worried about it with her.

We started using ponytail holders at about 1 yr, but didn't use barrettes until more like 18 months, for that very reason.

They still mess with them and the barrettes fall out within an hour, but at least they rarely stick things in their mouths anymore.

DD had them in her hair around 2-3 months old. She was in small pigtails by 6 months. I think b/c we started so early, she never played w/ them, and still has never pulled htem out.

Mine didn't have hair until about 4 months and thats when it all began. But before that I put the little head bands on them and they don't mess with them at all.

I started putting things in my dd's hair when she was 13ish months old because it was getting in her eyes. She didn't really like the ponytail holders, but has now learned that a clip is necessary. I found that the ponytail holder she pulled out easily with no pain or anything but the clip hurt when she pulled on it so she stopped. And it annoys her when her hair is in her eyes. Good luck.

I waited a long time to start putting their hair up bacause I thought they would pull each others bows out and eat them.

I guess I started a little more regularly around 2 years old. It has taken a while but they are pretty good about not pulling them out now. I still only put their hair up maybe 3 times a week or so. I usually use a small elastic to make a little ponytail on the side and then put a bow or something over it.
