My twins haven't cared much for soothers since they were born - but in the last 2 weeks, DD has decided she likes them - alot! I have them sitting around with the toys or on a table, and she is fine without one, but as soon as she sees one she crawls over, grabs it and sticks it in her mouth and keeps it there, until I take it out. She is just starting to babble, so I am worried that if she has it in her mouth too much that she won't develop speech!
Just wondering if you guys lets your LOs have a soother in their mouth while playing etc? I mean, I certainly give it to her if she is getting too fussy (as I think sometimes the soother helps with teething as she likes to bite it a bit), but I just don't know how much soother time is too much in a day?
    What do you do?

My DD has always taken one at night or if she's tired. But usually while playing she doesn't. But I noticed that when both of mine were/are teething they like to chew and suck on them. Usually a lot more chewing than sucking.

I'm not sure how much is too much though. Sorry I'm not more help!

I let my girls have a paci whenever they want it. I think people worry too much about pacifires - I have never once seen an adult with a pacifire. JMO

I also let my boys have a paci whenever they want it. They are babies - I'm not really concerned about how often/when they are sucking on it. They rarely leave it in for long now during the day - they might want to suck a few seconds and then they pop it out so they can start their "talking"! :)

I don't think it will get in the way of speech development until they are really talking. I feel that babies find comfort in sucking and should be able to use them if they want!

Actually after 12 months it can delay speech apparently... Maybe if you're worried about it you could just leave the pacifiers in the crib? Plus I heard it's not very safe once they start moving to have those, as they can choke on them if they fall.

We leave ours in the crib for the most part. If they are extremely fussy I will go get one and let them suck, but usually just for naps or night time.
