Hi all! My boys' 5th b-day party is this Sat. I have collected stuff for goodie bags -- I'm one of the wierd moms that loves doing this -- LOL! So the party is Batman themed, but didn't figure the girls would be as into that. Then I found this adorable Hello Kitty stuff at the Target $1 section -- coloring book, pencils, lip gloss, and mirror compacts.

So...I was sorting stuff out tonight and noticed the age on the back of this Hello Kitty shaped compact (like a make-up mirror compact) says 8+ (under 8 is a choking hazard). So now I'm freaking out about giving it to the 5 year old girls. I have enough stuff that I can return these and be just fine, but wanted to get your opinion.

Would you let your 5 year old daughter have this if she received it in a goodie bag?

    Thanks much!
    Mendy

Yep, my DD will be 5 in Sept. and we would be ok with that stuff. I've actually seen that at the Target dollar section and my DD has asked for it. She's gotten a couple of the Hello Kitty things and has had no problems with them.

My DD is 4 years old and I'd be fine with that. How can a compact be a choking hazard? Unless it's the size of a quarter or something like that....I think it's fine.

I'm guessing if the mirrors break?!?!? It's good size and has 2 mirros inside. That's the only thing I see that could be a choking hazard.

My girls would have...okay....still would, love that.

Usually choking hazard is under 3. Because at that age everything still goes in the mouth. Under 8 is less likely a choking, but developmental/use/age appropriate issue. I'm guessing its because of the mirrors possibility of breaking and causing a cut, not swallowing, or the manufacturer saying a mirror isn't age appropriate for under 8, or the company thinking that under 8 wouldn't know how to use the item properly, with out causing harm to themselves or others.

My girls will be 6 Saturday - they would have been fine with the mirror for the past couple of years. They have a couple mirrors - I just require they stay in the dresser drawer rather than the toy box. Sounds like a great party - enjoy!
