I've been trying the babywise method withmy girls for about a week now, not having a good outcome with it so far. My girls will go to bed at 8 or 9 every night, but will wake up at 1 or so. Which wouldn't bother me, but then they will wake every 2 hrs after that. What could I be doing wrong?? I've followed what the book has said, no interacting with them in the middle of the night, just change, feed, burp, put back down. I do keep them up during the day for atleast an hour after each feeding, which is every 3 hrs. They tend to nap fairly good during the day, about 1/2 hour to an hour.

    Sample of nightime routine:
    7-7:30: bath, baby massage
    8: bedtime bottle
8:30-9: swaddled and put in thier bouncy seats (they have to sleep in them due to reflux)
1-2: wake up, change, feed, burp, swaddle, put back down
4-5: awake again, give pacis, bounce them a little, back to sleep they go
7: wake up, change, feed, burp, dress, and take oldest DD to school

After that the day goes down hill......

Did I miss something from the book??? I don't care if they STTN, but would like to get them to sleep better after middle of the night waking.

Is this the book you mentioned? Healthy Sleep Habits Happy Child by Dr. Weisbluth

There was a topic under first year I think about it. Can't find it now (still learning the system here). There were some really good tips on that topic....It was titled When do you start naping by the clock.....

I plan to get it as soon as Dh gets home and I can hit the Library. Hope others post to tell us how to make it work!

I use babywise as well. Mine are born the same day as yours. I don't give them their last feeding until 9 or a little after(It used to be 10 until a week ago). That way the longer they go the more they do it when I am sleeping. MY DD will go to 6:30 or 7 wiht out waking at all. My DS will get up about 4 or 5 and eat then go right back to sleep. until they both are ready at 7 or so. I don't put them in their cribs except at night. Then they know it is different from a nap. They sleep down stairs in bassinets during the day. I think this helps them to know the difference between naps and at night.

Also it is not a fool proof method. How big are your babies? Mine started DS started sleeping better when he put on more weight. That could be part of it. ALso can you put off the first feeding by putting in paci and letting them try to go until 3/4 for th first feeding. Or wake them up and feed them just before you go to bed in hopes that they won't be hungry.

    Good luck.

My girls are both 11lbs, or atleast they were at their last appt. I never thought about using their pacis with the first waking, I will have to try that. I'm unable to put them in their crib to sleep, due to their acid reflux, they sleep in their bouncy seats.

I used babywise and it worked great for all my kids. My twins took a little longer though, I think it was 4 months when they started sleeping 8 hrs at night. Now they are 5.5 months and sleeping 10-11 hrs.

I would suggest not changing them in the middle of the night unless their diaper is dirty or very very soaked. Changing them could be waking them up to much. It could also be the bouncy seats, I know it can't be helped because they have to sleep in them for now, but they may not be sleeping as soundly as in a bed that doesn't bounce every time they move a little.

Good luck! I'm sure it will start to get better.

I was able to babywise my twins quite easily. At 5 weeks they slept 8 hours and ar 8 weeks 12 hours.

I think it is important to follow the day rules of eat, play sleep and taking full feedings. It worked well for us. We have great sleepers and great eaters!
