I took the girls out to eat with family yesterday, and was feeding Lily some of my niece's grilled cheese and she loved it. I was feeding her little pieces that I broke off.

So, for those of you with 9 month olds or older who feed baby grilled cheese, do you give them a quarter of the sandwich and let them gnaw on it, or do you cut it into small pieces and feed it to them that way? I want to fix it for them this week, but not sure of best way to give it to them.

    TIA!

I would cut it into small pieces, then you don't have to worry about them biting off a huge chunk, and then having to pull it out of their mouth! [IMG]

Yep, small peices, otherwise it is very likely they will bite off too much and choke or at the very least you'll spend a lot of time finger swiping.

I cut it up in small pieces so they can pick it up. They love it!!!

I'm so glad you asked this b/c I was wondering the same thing! I guess it would be the same with waffles?

When starting my kids on "real" solids like that, I cut everything into tiny pieces. It lessened the chance of choking but also teaches them the size of a bite of food, so that when they do start taking their own bites they have an idea of a manageable size.

My girls did best when things were cut into "sticks". But, I now know (from other friends with small children) that it was strange how well my girls did with biting off appropriate sizes. We never had the choking issue from shoving too much in at once. They always bit off only what they could handle. Guess ya gotta just figure out what works best with your kids!
