My son woke up crying this morning. When I went up there, he was telling me his pee pee hurt, and was holding it. So, I took of his diaper thinking there would be a rash or something. Nope.

But. Yikes, and here it gets wierd. He had an erection and I think it hurt! He did it again at lunch, but we were out, and I couldn't check. I just tried to focus his attention on his robot toy, to get it off his mind.

So, my question...is this normal?? I know its normal for boys of all ages to get them, but does it hurt?

Anyway....I would love to know your stories. Thanks!

I've had that same thing happen with my boys!!! The first time it scared the heck out of me. Not having an adult male in the house to ask, I immediately called my dad and he took over the discussion from there. I have since not heard anything about it. My assumption is that my dad told him something along the lines of "it's okay if it gets hard" kind of talk. I never asked him exactly what he said. I was worried it was a UTI or something along those lines but my dad assured me it was probably just something natural. Good luck and I would definately say hand this one off to your hubby to deal with!!!

My mom said this used to happen to my brother when he was little. She said she let my dad take care of it because she didn't know what to say.

OH! Is that what that's about?! Geez... Trent complained that he had an owie yesterday and when I asked him where, he pointed to his penis. I looked and didn't see any redness or anything and by then it was "down" and he quit complaining (but he asked me to kiss his owie and I redirected his attention to something else  )

My son Max used to say that when he had an erection. We had a talk & now he says it's big.

Just a thought; maybe it's not the erection itself that hurts but having an erection that is being constrained/squashed by his diaper. I can't imagine it would be the most comfortable thing (not sure what you could do about it though).

Man, squirrels will live anywhere. :p

I'm guessing his penis got hard and was at an awkward angle in his diaper. I know this is TMI for most mommies but I had to teach my son to "adjust" at the tender age of 2.

    :rotflmbo: Nice evasive maneuver there!

Hmm, I know that with uncircumcised boys, erections gradually separate the foreskin from the head of the penis. I wonder if that process is uncomfortable. Don't know if this could also be the case for circed boys (if your DS is circed) - if some leftover bit of foreskin is pulling away from the head...
