Maia has been taking prevacid solutab 15mg for 2mo now and it has worked great. This past week or two she has been throwing up quite a bit again and puking out her nose almost daily again.

Do they adjust the dosage for prevacid? Has anyone else experienced problems after being on it for a couple months?

My girls are breastfed and Maia is probably ~13lbs now.

    Thanks!!

The GI told me 15 was the most they would give. My son is is almost 10 pounds heavier than Maia and only on 15. I begged them to up it and they said no. I have a friend who is a GI and she was surprised they said that. She said up to 1mg per pound was what she would prescribe. Even so, Maia is still not ready for a bigger dose.

Apparently GI's I like PEDS they all have a different answer. Maybe try talking to yours and see.

Try this - it has a dosage calculator uner the chart!

It is way off from what my GI and friend said!

The GI specialist that my dd sees told me reflux meds don't stop the throwing up, they just neutralize the acid to reduce the pain. She also said that throwing up is ok as long as it's not affecting weight gain. It's unpleasant and not fun but "normal" for reflux.

Are they getting more active and rolling? This maybe the cause of more spit up through the nose. Unfortunately, the meds dont help the spit up, just the pain. I hope she feels better soon. :hug99:

That is the dosage we have and instead of upping it we added Carafate. So I am not sure. I tried going a couple of days without it to see if we could use the carafate only but no. I was hoping once solids were in full swing she would improve but not yet.

My Benny has been on 15mg of Prevacid for about a month (he is around 12lbs now). He still spits up, sometimes quite a bit, but not as violently as before. I am just happy that his pain seems so much better - he doesn't grunt or arch anymore.

She is rolling quite a bit and bouncing and wiggling! The girl will NOT sit still!! But its the puking out the nose that worries me (and her) because it is sometimes 2hrs after she eats milk will just pour out her nose (she's not puking out her mouth just her nose) like when she was an infant. I just feel so bad for her and she gets scared when it happens.

Thank you!! Wow here is what the calc said:

Your child, who is 6 months old and weighs 5.9 kg, should receive a dose of 7 to 9 mg of Prevacid delivered 3 times per day for a total of 21 to 27 mg per day.

The recommended amount for each dose can be safely rounded up to the nearest available dosage form (7.5 mg) without risk of overdose or side effects (Example: A recommended dose of 6 mg given 3 times per day should be rounded up to 7.5 mg given 3 times per day, for a total of 22.5 mg per day).
Prevacid 15 mg Solutabs (lansoprazole) are scored and can be broken into two halves, each containing 7.5 mg of lansoprazole.

Prevacid Solutabs should be administered on an empty stomach and 30 minutes to 1 hour before a full meal.

We have our 6mo appt on Tues so I will talk to her too. (Funny how all docs/GIs have different answers for the same questions!)
