As I sit here writing this at 3:00am I can't help but crack up laughing at the unbelievable redonkulous night I have just had (and I'm sure it's not over yet). It truly is comical. Miraculously at about 6 pm last night I got both babies to take a nap at the very same time. I wanted to impress my DH with a homecooked dinner, so I made Coq au Vin. It was really nice and we even were able to enjoy some wine and conversation after dinner. It was one of those perfectly rainy, cold nights that New Orleans is famous for and I absolutly love them. After dinner I bathed the babies and they went to sleep for 9:00 with no problem. I was so amazed at my new found skills (luck?)and I just knew that it would be a smooth night. I could not have imagined what the night had in store for me. Our lovely rainy night turned into a horrible storm at about 12:00am. I have two big dogs with even bigger thunderstorm anxieties, so as soon as I had fallen asleep I was woken by the bed vibrating from two drooling, trembling, dogs who refused to GET DOWN. I had finally ( and literally) drug the dogs out of our room, breathed a sigh of relief and snuggled back into bed when a big clap of thunder woke both babies up. They both started screaming bloody murder and it took me about an hour to settle them down and get them back to sleep. I decided to go to the kitchen to make some bottles to have ready, when I noticed my bad dog Roxie was on her back in her "I did something really, really bad pose", and sure enough she had knocked over the trash can and devoured all of the chicken scraps left over from our dinner. I cleaned up the mess, quick mopped the floor, and sleepily shuffled back to bed. I closed my eyes, cozied up under the covers and fell into a deep sleep...for about 20 minutes.....and then the baby woke up....AGAIN!!! You've got to be kidding right?? I threw off the covers muttering bad words the whole way to the kitchen, not even bothering to turn the lights on, went to grab a bottle, but didn't make it that far because before you knew it I was sliding blindly across the living room floor on a whole lot of dog sh*.t in my bare feet!! Yep, because my wonderful precious dog has a sensitive tummy and eats expensive food because any amount of anything beside prescription i/d diet gives her the extreme runs, which is usually no big deal since we have a doggy door except for this time 'cause she was afraid of the thunderstorm.

    WOW just WOW :escape:

Oh those nights! I'm sorry it was so bad but I couldn't help but get a chuckle. I have oversized dogs too and I remember those nights. Not quite sure I ever stepped in a dog pile so you get to take the cake on that one! Hoping your night got a little better and you were able to get some shut eye!

    How funny!

I was laughing out loud about the dog! We have three dogs and three cats, and between them and the babies our lives sometimes feel utterly absurd. I can sooo relate! Hope you managed to get some sleep!

Ahhhh thanks for letting us chuckle at your expense. Yeah, sometimes you just have to laugh otherwise you'll cry. I too have had the experience of walking to the kitchen in the middle of the night and...s-q-u-i-s-h...except the squish in this house is always cat barf. Ewww.

I'm glad ya'll had a laugh and I knew it would definitly be appreciated here in first year. When stuff like that happens it's really all you can do to retain your sanity although I did want to send Roxie straight over The Rainbow Bridge when it first happened. If it wasn't my life it would make for some really interesting t.v.
