I had my first two sons vaginally and my twins via emergency c-section (I was planning on a vaginal delivery). I was stuck at 7 for 12 hours! For me a vaginal delivery was easier. I recovered a lot quicker. My first son was 9 lbs. 1 oz., and I had to have a full episotomy, which makes you sore and a little slow moving around, but nothing compared to a c-section. My second son was 12 lbs. 1oz. and a breeze to deliver - 5 pushes and he was out. I had epidurals with all of my deliveries and I strongly recommend them. Ask the nurse for the epidural when you first get to the hospital! I felt the c-section was a hard recovery and I felt almost in a cloud, for 3 weeks. Very tired and in pain, whereas with the vaginally deliveries (especially #2 ) I bounced back quickly. I would recommend trying for a vaginal delivery!

Hi! When I was pregnant with my twins, I was looking for any information on how a vaginal birth was gonna be! I was absolutely terrified! When my water broke and I went to the hospital...I couldn't even think straight. I was so scared. My babies were head down for several months and my doctor said she had no problem going vaginal since they were positioned so well, so I knew what I was going to have to do.

After getting to the hospital, I labored for a while but was not progressing and was put on Pitocin. The contractions got worse but still bareable. The doctor kept saying, "you can get that epidural ANYTIME honey". But the contractions to me, felt like really bad menstrual cramps and not affecting me too much. But by the time I was 5cm, I had enough. I called for the epidural. The nurse told me "How about I give you something in the mean time, to take the edge off?" (It was going to take the lady 30 minutes to get here with the epidural). I said do you think I should? She nodded yes. She gave me Stadol and within seconds, I was off in la la land! The lady came in with the epidural and I could CARE LESS. I was out of it. I remember her saying it was going to feel like a bee sting and that the nurse was holding me in the right position because I could barely hold myself up. After it was in, I felt this waterfall feeling on my back and within a few minutes, I was numb from my abdomen down, but I could still feel my legs...although they tingled once in a while. After that, I slept quite a bit. I remember a few times, I could feel pressure - what probably was a contration and I remember thinking to myself...wow if I didn't have the epidural- THAT would have really sucked!! After a few hours, the doctor came in an said "she's ready to push!". I could feel only pressure, no pain or even contractions, so the doctor had to tell me when to push. And trying to push when you feel nothing is tough, but the doctor leads you in the right direction and soon you figure out how to push correctly. My daughter came out quick but my son didn't want to come out. But after 7 minutes of pushing, use of the vacuum and forceps, he was finally out! I don't know if the epidural was wearing off or what, but what hurt the most was delivering the placentas! But they administered more medicine and it helped a little. I did tear and needed stitches.

Afterward, I cannot lie-- it was very painful for the first few days. I took some pain killers that first night, but then just motrin or advil after that. It was hard to do much (get up from a sitting position or out of bed, switch positions in bed etc) without being in pain, but not like excruciating, just painful. I think the saving grace for the first night for me, was that I had a catheter during labor and delivery and they kept it in for a while afterwards. It was so nice not to have to get up and pee!! I drank water like a crazy woman right after delivery! I would say that the worst pain was within the first 3-5 days, and then it lessens. I never did take any of the pain medication that was prescribed. Most pain medication makes me drowsy and with two newborns...that is the last thing I needed! So I stuck with Advil. Hope my story helps! Good Luck!!!

I was the same way, absolutely inconceivable in my mind that I could vaginally deliver TWO BABIES! My OBGYN routinely did twin births by csection and assured me I'd be no different. I was scared of the Csection as well, though. I'd had a baby before vaginally and heard the Csection was major surgery....well, of course my twin boys never behaved as they should have even when I was pregnant with them...they decided to try and come early on more than one occasion and I ended up hospitalized a couple of times in a big city 2 hours from home...my last stay was a month, they wouldn't let me leave until I birthed those babies!!!! While there the docs (a whole different set) decided I'd go vaginal since Baby A was head down. And if Baby B didn't cooperate, they could just turn him (WHAT???)
One of my nurses scored me a laptop to use while I was locked up in my room and I logged on and found this website and read all the birthing stories, especially the ones detailing the twin vaginal labors & deliveries...I was amazed, women had actually delivered 2 babies vaginally and lived to tell about it! HA!
I said, if they can do it, I can too..and long story short I did.
My labor was 6 hours, half of what I went through with my singleton.
My delivery was 15 minutes for both boys, half of what I went through pushing out my singleton.
The only problems I ran into was the epidural my anesthesiologist put in had a kink in the line and would momentarily lapse whenever I rolled a certain way. But, I'm here to tell you...I felt like I was Queen of the world after I delivered those boys!!!! I just kept thinking...I can't believe I just did that, I can't believe I just had twins!!!!
I'm sure you will feel like you've accomplished so much after yours are here...in fact, come to think of it...mine are almost 4 months old now and I think birthing them was actually the last time I feel like I've actually accomplished something where the twins are concerned! ha!
